Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Cathédrale on Rue Mercière, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The entrance is on the third floor (there’s an elevator, thank god), and you know how those old Strasbourg buildings can be… but this place actually surprised me. The location is pretty much perfect if you want to be in the thick of things without dealing with the crazy tourist madness around the cathedral itself – though you’re literally a three-minute walk from Notre-Dame, which still blows my mind every time I see it.

What I really love about this spot is that you’re right in the heart of the old town, but on a street that feels more like where locals actually hang out. Rue Mercière has this great mix of traditional winstubs and newer places, and honestly, some of the best late-night food in Strasbourg is right downstairs from the hotel. The rooms themselves are… well, it’s a solid three-star, nothing fancy but everything works properly. I mean, the WiFi is reliable (crucial for me), the beds are comfortable enough, and the bathrooms are clean – sometimes that’s all you really need, right? The soundproofing is actually better than I expected, considering you’re in the center of everything. I was worried about noise from the restaurants below, but once you close the windows, it’s surprisingly quiet.

Here’s what makes this place work for me – the staff actually knows the neighborhood. Not in that fake concierge way, but like, they’ll tell you which boulangerie has the best croissants (it’s the one on Rue des Frères, by the way) or when the Saturday market gets too crowded to navigate. Plus, parking is… well, it’s Strasbourg, so parking is always going to be a bit of a nightmare, but there’s a decent public garage about five minutes away, and they’ll give you directions that actually make sense. The tram stops right nearby too, which is clutch if you want to explore beyond the old town or need to get to the train station. I’ve stayed here a few times now – usually when I’m in town for work but want to feel like I’m actually experiencing the city rather than stuck in some generic business hotel. It’s got character without being quirky for the sake of being quirky, if that makes sense.

  Great location right next to the cathedral. Surprisingly quiet for so central a location apart from the early morning bells that start at 7.00am which we found fine as we wake early anyway. Bed was comfortable and shower very good. The kitchen is very small but well equipped. Flexible check in and out to align with our trains was appreciated.
  
  What could be improved: The apartment decor and equipment is a bit dated but this is reflected in the very good price.

  It's located less than 100 meters from the cathedral main entrance. The place was very clean, was comfortable and had a very well equipped kitchen. The person who handled us the keys, Melanie, was very nice and helpful. An excellent place to stay visiting Strasbourg.
  
  What could be improved: The apartment is located on the 3rd floor (51 steps, I counted them). So not adequated for people with mobility problems. The cathedral bells toll the first time at 7AM and the last time at 10PM. But, hey, you still have the possibility of 9 hours of sleep in a quit and silence room. Both things were not a problem for wife and me but I think it was worth mention it.

  The apartment was wonderfully situated very near the Cathedral and the apartment had all the things we needed for a comfortable 5 night stay. Although the street outside was very busy with New Year festivities, the apartment itself was quiet and relaxing. All the facilities such as restaurants, bars and shops are virtually on the doorstep. Also the sites of interest are very near and within walking distance.
  
  What could be improved: There was nothing we didn't like. Some people might not like the flights of stairs leading to the apartment, but the description of the property states this and so it was not a surprise for us.

  I really liked living in the centre literally next to the cathedral, really nice surroundings. The apartmant was cozy, it had everything I needed, and it was very clean.
  I wouldn't recommend it to light sleepers though, the bells are really loud, but I enjoyed waking up to their sound, so for me that wasn't a problem.

  Location, cute baby pigeons outside the windows! Cathedral bells a novelty but be prepared that they start at 7am & are rung every 15 minutes until around 10pm
  
  What could be improved: Not very clean, cramped, dingy & dark due to poor natural light. Bed mattresses old, worn & bowed leading to excruciating back ache. Kitchen not very well-equipped, old dirty washing up sponges left, and a rodent trap under the units!
  Odd towels which were expected to last all 5 nights/6 days so started to smell. Ran out of toilet paper, asked for more, & were told to buy it ourselves! Bathroom sink leaks so there’s a mop bucket placed under it!
  Random cleaning equipment strewn around the place & unsightly products in the bathroom.
  We were asked to clean the whole place & strip the bed before leaving! Didn’t do the latter & performed the former cursorily!
  This place seriously needs an update. Whilst Melanie (the owner’s niece) was friendly the 3-way communication was a pain! TV didn’t work the whole time we were there despite several requests to have it looked at! Suggest owners replace the mattresses, declutter, and employ an agent & cleaning service!
