Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to the Strasbourg centre gare, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place tucked away on Rue de la Course. It’s this narrow little street that most tourists probably miss entirely, but that’s actually part of what makes this spot work so well. You’re literally a three-minute walk from the main train station (hence the name), which sounds like it’d be noisy as hell, but somehow it’s not. The building itself has that classic Alsatian vibe without trying too hard – you know, the kind of place that feels like it’s been here forever but someone clearly cares about keeping it up.

What really surprised me was how much the staff actually knows about getting around the city. I mean, yeah, every hotel claims their people are helpful, but the woman at the front desk drew me a little map showing the back streets to get to Petite France without dealing with all the tour groups on Grand’Rue. She was right – it’s way better that way, especially in summer when the main drag is basically shoulder-to-shoulder tourists. The rooms are pretty straightforward, nothing fancy, but everything works and the beds are actually comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses). The bathrooms are small but functional, and honestly, you’re not going to be spending much time in your room anyway when you’ve got the cathedral and all those amazing winstubs within walking distance.

Here’s the thing that really sold me on this place – it sits right in that sweet spot where you feel like you’re staying somewhere locals might actually recommend, not just another generic hotel that shows up in every booking app. The breakfast isn’t elaborate, but they have proper Alsatian pastries and decent coffee, and you can eat it in this little courtyard area that gets morning sun. Plus, if you’re doing day trips (and you should – Colmar’s only like 45 minutes by train), being this close to the station is actually brilliant. I watched people dragging suitcases across cobblestones from hotels in the old town, and honestly, that looked miserable. Street parking around here is tricky, but there’s a public garage about two blocks away that won’t break the bank. The whole area gets pretty quiet after 9 PM, which is perfect if you’ve spent the day wandering around and just want to crash somewhere peaceful.
