Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Résidence les Cèdres on rue Jacob Mayer, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the unassuming spots end up being the gems, and this little residence is exactly that kind of pleasant surprise.
The thing about this location is that it’s properly Strasbourg without being touristy – I mean, you’re still close enough to walk to the cathedral (maybe 15 minutes if you don’t get distracted by the patisseries), but you’re tucked away in this quiet residential area that actually feels like real life happens there. Rue Jacob Mayer is one of those tree-lined streets where you’ll hear actual French conversations from the locals heading to the boulangerie in the morning, not just tour groups. The building itself has that classic Alsatian charm – nothing flashy, but solid and welcoming in that understated French way.
What really won me over was how… well, livable it felt. The apartments (because that’s really what they are) have proper kitchenettes where you can actually cook something beyond instant noodles, which honestly saved me a fortune during my week there. The rooms are bigger than your typical hotel – you’ve got space to spread out your stuff without feeling like you’re living out of a suitcase. And the beds? Surprisingly comfortable for a mid-range place. I’m usually tossing and turning the first night somewhere new, but I slept like a baby. The only minor thing – and I’m being picky here – is that the WiFi can be a bit temperamental on the upper floors, but nothing that ruins your stay.
Here’s something I really appreciated: the staff actually knows the neighborhood. When I asked about finding a good wine bar that wasn’t full of tourists, the woman at reception didn’t just hand me a generic brochure – she drew me a little map to this incredible cave à vin about three blocks away where I ended up spending two evenings. That’s the kind of local insight you can’t get from big chain hotels. Plus, parking isn’t the nightmare you’d expect in Strasbourg – there’s street parking that’s not impossible to find, and they can point you toward a garage if you’re nervous about leaving your car outside.
The 8.7 rating makes total sense to me. It’s not trying to be the Ritz, but it delivers exactly what you want from a base in Strasbourg – comfort, space, a real neighborhood feel, and enough character to make you feel like you’re actually experiencing the city rather than just passing through it. If you’re the type who’d rather grab groceries at the local market and have coffee at the café down the street than eat every meal in hotel restaurants, this place gets it. I’d definitely stay here again, and I’m already planning to when I come back for the Christmas markets – though I suspect it books up fast during that season, so don’t wait around if you’re thinking about it.
Strasbourg hotels range from charming boutique properties in the historic Petite France district to elegant converted mansions and modern accommodations near the European Parliament.

Very clear check in instructions. Nice apartment (3rd floor, access via lift) with facilities including washing machine. Excellent location, very near a tram station to get into the heart of Strasbourg quickly. On site parking was good with a number of available spaces (we stayed in April).
great size comfortable apartment with ample parking, great location and host very responsive – Lisa from Australia – 2 March 2025 (9/10)
Excellent location, apartment was very spacious and clean with a lovely gift of gingerbread and chocolate upon arrival. The instructions were clear on how to enter the apartment, and the apartment was lovely and warm even during the freezing temperatures we experienced outdoors. The beds were comfortable, and the kitchen had a good size fridge and ample facilities. The tram stop is right next to the apartment block, however we found is easy to walk 15 minutes into the city centre, which was a good option during busy periods over the weekend rush of people attending the Christmas markets.
What could be improved: the washing machine was broken, we didn't realise and put on a wash to then have to take out all of our sopping wet clothes, we luckily found a launderette not too far away.Exceptional – Anastasiya from United Arab Emirates – 7 January 2025 (10/10)
Place is very cozy and clean, kitchen has all needed amenities, location is convenient and hosts are very helpy
I highly recommend it to everyone – Ana from Serbia – 4 January 2025 (10/10)
The host was exceptionally kind and attentive. Before our arrival, they sent us a detailed video explaining how to get to the apartment, which made everything so much easier. They also allowed us to leave our luggage early and even let us check into the apartment earlier than planned.
The apartment was spotless, fully equipped, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Nothing was missing! The location is fantastic – the tram station is just a few minutes away, and there’s a market and a bakery nearby, which was super convenient.
Our experience was wonderful, and we would definitely stay here again. I highly recommend it to everyone!Exceptional – Valentina from Bulgaria – 15 December 2024 (10/10)
