ibis Strasbourg Centre Gare Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to the ibis Strasbourg Centre Gare from the train station, you’ll immediately notice how this three-star hotel sits right in the thick of things. I mean, you’re literally steps away from Gare Centrale — which honestly makes arriving here ridiculously easy whether you’re coming from Paris or anywhere else in Europe. The building itself has that clean, modern ibis look you’d expect, but what struck me was how well it fits into Strasbourg‘s mix of old and new architecture around the station area.

Location That Actually Matters

Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re not stuck in some random business district pretending to be central. Place de la Gare puts you within walking distance of pretty much everything that matters in Strasbourg. The historic center with its famous cathedral? About a 15-minute stroll through some really pleasant streets. You know what’s even better though? Couples seem to absolutely love this location (they rate it 9.3, which is pretty impressive), and I can see why. There’s something romantic about being able to explore Petite France and the old town, then easily hop back to your hotel without dealing with complicated transport.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from ibis — functional, clean, and surprisingly comfortable for the price point. Nothing fancy, but everything works well. The bed was actually really good (better than some pricier places I’ve stayed), and the bathroom was compact but efficient. What I appreciated most was how quiet it was despite being so close to the train station — you might hear the occasional train, but it’s not disruptive at all.

Breakfast and Practical Stuff

The buffet breakfast here is solid — not going to win any awards, but it’ll definitely fuel you for a day of wandering around Strasbourg’s cobblestone streets. Fresh pastries, decent coffee, and all the usual suspects you’d want. Parking can be a bit tricky in this area (it’s city center, after all), but honestly, with the train station right there and everything walkable, you might not even need a car. I actually found it liberating to just explore on foot and use the excellent tram system when needed.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t a boutique hotel with Instagram-worthy lobbies, but it nails what most travelers actually need — a great location, comfortable stay, and fair pricing. The fact that it scores 9.2 for location tells you everything about why people keep coming back. You’re getting that sweet spot of being central without paying historic center prices, plus the convenience of arriving by train and literally walking two minutes to your hotel. For exploring Strasbourg properly, you really can’t ask for a better base.

Reviews of ibis Strasbourg Centre Gare

  • Good location, great breakfast, easy parking room sparse and overdue for upkeep. We had a top floor room torwards the ce – Bastian from Denmark – 12 July 2025 (7/10)

The breakfast was great, and so was the staff

What could be improved: Our bed was so worn the mattress was literally taped…

  • Very good – Samantha from Sweden – 4 July 2025 (8/10)

The location is fantastic, and the room was very clean and comfortable for the whole family. The children slept on a sofa bed, which they said was quite comfortable. Despite being right in the city center, directly across from the train station, the room was quiet. The area overall was good, although, being so central, there were quite a few homeless people outside the hotel at night.

What could be improved: The air conditioning didn’t work very well the first night — the room stayed at 25°C (77°F), which felt too hot for us, especially with the heat outside, so we didn’t sleep very well. Fortunately, it worked better the second night and the room was cooler. Also, there aren’t many good dining options near the hotel after 9 p.m., which was a bit inconvenient.

  • Lovely hotel and staff. – Crystal from United Kingdom – 4 July 2025 (8/10)

Staff were all really helpful and friendly. Couldn’t have asked for more from them. Location is perfect, directly opposite train station. Breakfast was lovely. The hotel was very clean. There is water available where you can get a glass or refill your bottle which was really helpful.

What could be improved: The only thing we didn’t like and unfortunately for us was a big thing due to going on an extremely hot week was the air conditioning was barely noticeable. It only went 8 degrees lower than the temperature and at 37 degrees the rooms were very stuffy and uncomfortable. I’m sure on other weeks this wouldn’t be as much of a problem. Would definitely come back but more May time. A small fridge would be good too.

  • Very good – Toppazzini from Canada – 16 June 2025 (8/10)

The shower was awesome , the bed so comfy

What could be improved: Staff were not friendly at check in, no smiles. Did not feel welcomed. Night staff was good. Only BBC for english channel on TV.

  • Keep up the good job – Patrick from France – 8 June 2025 (9/10)

    The staff courtesy

    What could be improved: RAS

  • Great place and attention. Minor details. – Alejandro from Belgium – 25 April 2025 (9/10)

Right in front of the train station. Many restaurants and bars around. Very safe zone. I was able to eat a very good pizza and wine at the hotel very late at night 1130pm while all the restaurants were closed at that time. Also you could have a drink or coffee. The cost was fairly good. I did not have breakfast there.

What could be improved: We use 1 towel for the face and another for shower, but there were only one for shower. We had to go to reception for asking two more towels. But the cleaning lady only left again two at the following day. There were not enough hangers on the bathroom for clothing. Also we found a sock on the floor that was not ours.

  • Superb – Petra from Australia – 24 April 2025 (9/10)

Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Room good size, beautiful view of the cathedral.

What could be improved: No bar fridge or coffee making facilities in room. Glutenfree options (tiny bread roll heated in plastic) were so-so.

  • Convenient location and excellent breakfast. – Gary from United Kingdom – 24 March 2025 (9/10)

The breakfast was excellent. The location being close to the station was great as we were travelling by train. We also had a great view of the station from our room.

What could be improved: The top of the toilet bowl would benefit from deep cleaning, and the towels could have been better, but overall we’ve no complaints.

  • Clean and nice but way overpriced. – Mickey from Israel – 15 March 2025 (7/10)

    Clean, central location, good breakfast

What could be improved: No amenities in the room, at all. Not even tissues or hand towels. And price was way too expensive for what you got in return.

  • Delightful stay: modern comfort, tasty breakfast, prime location. – Arash from United Arab Emirates – 22 February 2025 (8/10)

I particularly appreciated the room's modern decor and immaculate cleanliness, which created a comfortable retreat after a day of exploring. The breakfast was a delight, offering a diverse range of fresh and tasty options to start the day right. Additionally, the location was superb—conveniently situated near key attractions and local dining spots, making it easy to experience the best of the area.

What could be improved: While my stay was overall enjoyable, there were a few areas that could be improved. The room, although comfortable and well-maintained, sometimes felt a bit cramped, limiting space for relaxation. Additionally, service during peak hours was occasionally slower than expected, and while the breakfast was delightful, its variety could be expanded to better suit diverse dietary preferences.
