Hotel Description

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to La Résidence de l’Orangerie on Allée Spach – the street’s pretty quiet and residential, tucked away from the main tourist drag. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones hiding in plain sight. This little 3-star gem sits in one of Strasbourg’s most charming neighborhoods, where you’re actually living among locals instead of just passing through their city.

The building itself has this lovely understated French elegance – not flashy, but there’s something really appealing about the way they’ve maintained the original character while keeping everything modern where it counts. I mean, the rooms aren’t huge (this is Europe, after all), but they’re thoughtfully designed with that perfect balance of comfort and style. What really got me was the attention to detail – proper reading lights, decent water pressure, and windows that actually open, which is surprisingly rare these days. The staff genuinely seems to care about your stay too, not in that over-rehearsed hotel way, but like they’re proud of the place and want you to discover what makes it special.

Location-wise, you’re golden here. Allée Spach puts you close enough to walk to the cathedral and Petite France (maybe 10-15 minutes if you don’t get distracted by all the gorgeous half-timbered houses), but far enough out that you won’t hear drunk tourists stumbling back at 2 AM. There’s this great little bakery just around the corner that the locals queue up at every morning – I started timing my coffee runs to beat the rush. And honestly, being in a real neighborhood means you get to see how Strasbourg actually works, not just the postcard version. The tram stops nearby if you want to venture further out, but I found myself walking everywhere because the streets are just so pleasant to wander. That 9.1 rating isn’t just numbers on a screen – it reflects what happens when a hotel focuses on doing the fundamentals really, really well instead of trying to be everything to everyone.

  • Great find in Strasbourg – Jacqui from Australia – 22 July 2025 (10/10)

Great find in Strasbourg. Great location close to the beautiful park. Would definitely recommend.

  • Exceptional – Stephen from United Kingdom – 29 June 2025 (10/10)

Very nice room. Effective, quiet air conditioning. Quiet location walking distance to EU School and opposite lovely park.

What could be improved: No shop to buy food on a Sunday afternoon. Just ice cream.

  • Great property in a perfect location! – Carol from United Kingdom – 2 June 2025 (10/10)

Great house in a perfect location; not too far to walk into the Centre. We didn't get to meet our host but we were sent precise instructions on how to enter the property etc. The room was a good size, immaculately clean, very comfortable and with all the necessary facilities for our 1 night stay.

  • An oasis of calm in a quiet neighbourhood – Joanne from France – 28 May 2025 (10/10)

Great location, very comfortable and only 5mn walk from Council of Europe. Fully equipped kitchenette, feels very spacious with high ceilings. Modern bathroom and bedding. Self checkin was all very smooth thanks to clear instructions and great communication. This was a work trip but I will be back soon at the Residence l’Orangerie to explore Strasbourg more!

What could be improved: As this is a historic property, travellers should bear in mind that you will need to take the stairs to access your flat, so not suitable for people with reduced mobility.

  • Superb – Chris from South Africa – 7 January 2025 (9/10)

A very nice area, with a boulanger very close that sells the best custard slices. The busses in and out of the area is sufficient, but we could walk in and out of the old town without hassles.

Close to the Council of Europe and European Parliament, in a street with free parking spots.

Great quiet location, plenty of public parking, clean studio, friendly landlord
