Hôtel De L’Ill Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hôtel De L’Ill on rue des Bateliers, you immediately sense you’ve found something special in Strasbourg. This three-star hotel sits right in the heart of the city’s most coveted neighborhood, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. The building has that classic Alsatian charm you’d expect, but what struck me most was how quiet it feels despite being so central — you know what I mean, that rare find where you’re in the thick of everything but can actually get some peace.
The Perfect Strasbourg Base
I mean, couples absolutely rave about this spot for good reason. The location score of 9.6 isn’t just a number — it reflects how walkable everything is from here. You’re literally steps away from the Cathedral, the old town’s winding streets, and those picture-perfect half-timbered houses that make Strasbourg so enchanting. What I love is that you can easily explore Petite France on foot, grab dinner in the Krutenau district, or catch a tram to the European Quarter without any hassle. The rue des Bateliers itself has this lovely local feel — not touristy, just authentically Strasbourgeois.
Your Room and Comfort
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d want from a well-run three-star property — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully arranged. Nothing flashy, but everything worked perfectly, which is honestly what matters most when you’re out exploring all day. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms are modern enough without losing the hotel’s character. You’ll find the space well-designed for couples, with enough room to spread out your things without feeling cramped.
Morning Fuel
The buffet breakfast actually impressed me more than I expected. It’s not just the standard continental spread — they’ve included some nice local touches that give you a real taste of Alsace. Fresh pastries, good coffee, and enough variety to fuel whatever adventure you’ve planned for the day. The breakfast area has a pleasant atmosphere too, not rushed or cramped like some hotel dining areas can feel.
Why Guests Love It
Look, Hôtel De L’Ill isn’t trying to be something it’s not — it’s a solid, well-located hotel that delivers exactly what most travelers need. The 8.4 rating reflects guests who appreciate good value and an unbeatable location over flashy amenities. You’re paying for that prime Strasbourg address and the freedom it gives you to explore on foot. Whether you’re here for a romantic weekend (seriously, couples can’t stop praising this place) or just want a comfortable base for sightseeing, this hotel gets the fundamentals right. Sometimes that’s exactly what makes a trip memorable — staying somewhere that enhances your experience rather than complicating it. The staff goes out of their way to make your stay pleasant and welcoming.

Reviews of Hôtel De L’Ill
Ok hotel, friendly, great location – Christopher from Australia – 16 July 2025 (7/10)
The Location, breakfast was Not Bad, staff member was very helpful after alerted to our initial problem
What could be improved: Initial room far too small for 2 people, shutters could not be opened and room was too hot the first night. Also our room key repeatedly wasn’t working. Alerted staff member who gave us a bigger, albeit less modern room with windows that let in light and air and stay was much improved.
On a different note: it remains unclear why this hotel offers cooked breakfast options which are left to go cold.Great little hotel – Graham from United Kingdom – 3 July 2025 (9/10)
Small, but big enough. Very friendly staff, and good breakfast. Nice and quiet, but in a great location, just over the furniture from the old town. Would highly recommend.
What could be improved: Room could be a bit bigger, but it was great value for money.Great location and attentive staff – Debbie from Australia – 22 June 2025 (8/10)

Lage Lage Lage ! You cannot get a better location; location meaning geographical : 30s to L'Ille !
What could be improved: The cover photo shows a famous house in Petite France, not the Hotel. That dissapointed and confused us a bit. not amused.
