Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about La Petite Alsacienne? The name actually fits – this isn’t some grand hotel trying to impress you with marble lobbies, it’s genuinely petite and genuinely Alsatian in the best possible way. I mean, you’re right on Quai de la Bruche, which honestly most tourists walk past without realizing they’re missing something special. The building has that half-timbered charm you’d expect, but what I loved was how it felt authentic rather than tourist-trap quaint. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no pretentious ceremony, just genuinely helpful staff who actually knew the neighborhood well enough to give you real recommendations, not just the obvious cathedral-Grand Île circuit everyone does.

The location is honestly brilliant if you know Strasbourg at all. You’re tucked away from the main tourist chaos but still walking distance to everything that matters – I’d say about eight minutes to get to Place Kléber, maybe twelve to the cathedral if you don’t get distracted by shop windows. But here’s the thing most people don’t realize: being on the quai means you’re right by the water, so there’s this lovely quiet in the evenings when the day-trip crowds head back to their buses. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid three-star – nothing fancy, but everything works and it’s genuinely clean. I appreciated that the windows actually open (you’d be surprised how many places seal you in), and if you get a room facing the water, well, there are worse views to wake up to. The beds were comfortable enough that I didn’t spend the night rearranging pillows, which for me is always the real test.

What really sells this place though is how it feels like a neighborhood find rather than a hotel that happens to be in Strasbourg. The staff clearly live here – they knew which boulangerie opens earliest (Maison Kammerer around the corner, if you’re wondering), where to find parking that won’t cost you a fortune, and honestly seemed to care whether you had a good stay. The breakfast was typical French hotel fare – nothing revolutionary but perfectly decent croissants and strong coffee. I mean, at a 9.1 rating you’re obviously not getting horror stories, but what impressed me was the consistency. Everything just worked smoothly, from the reliable WiFi to the hot water that stayed hot. It’s the kind of place where you spend less time thinking about the hotel and more time enjoying the city, which honestly is exactly what you want when you’re in Strasbourg for a few days.

Reviews

  • La Petite Alsacienne was the epitome of an authentic French experience. – Linda from Australia – 5 July 2025 (9/10)

The character and charm of the property and its location made our stay extra special. We were central to everything you could want.

What could be improved: There wasn’t anything we didn’t like about the property. It is worth knowing there are precarious stairs if you have large luggage!

  • Stepping into History – Mccoy from United States – 24 June 2025 (10/10)

Charming, great historic location and nuilding, easy walk from train station. Right in the middle of the Strasbourg sights, lots of windows, overlooks canal/river and outside Cafe.

What could be improved: Precarious winding staircase to second floor.

  • Historic, beautiful house in the center of the action – Lauren from United States – 20 February 2025 (10/10)

The house was amazing! We found it featured on a poster at an art shop. Tourists were always taking pictures of it and looking jealous that we were going in the door. Aside that, the host was very lovely and thoughtful in making our stay comfortable. It was cozy even though it was cold outside. Well set up with a nice kitchen with coffee. Very clean and of course walkable to all the touristic areas. We loved Strasbourg more than we expected to!

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Unbeatable location for visiting Strasbourg – Shenghui from United Kingdom – 19 February 2025 (10/10)

Excellent communication from the host before our arrival with detailed instructions for getting to the property and getting the keys. Location is superb, right on the river across a pedestrian bridge from la petite France. All attractions are within walking distance. Lovely and funky interiors and strong wifi, the QR code for wifi is very convenient. Nice kitchen with excellent choices for coffee.

What could be improved: A tv would be helpful.

It was so beautiful and charming with a great set up. Had everything you needed. It was a great location and easy to walk to so many sites around the town.
    I felt at home there.

What could be improved: The lack of curtains maybe. I could close the shutters, but curtains would be easier.
