Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about JAMES Résidence & Spa? It’s tucked away on this narrow street – Rue des Mineurs – that most tourists probably walk right past, but honestly, that’s part of its charm. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from the cathedral and all that tourist madness, but the moment you step inside, it feels like you’ve discovered this quiet little secret that locals have been keeping to themselves.
The spa part isn’t just marketing fluff, actually. They’ve got this really lovely wellness area that feels genuinely relaxing, not like those sterile hotel spas that try too hard. The whole place has this modern-meets-historic vibe going on – you can tell they put real thought into the renovation instead of just slapping some contemporary furniture into an old building and calling it a day. The rooms are spacious (well, spacious for European standards anyway), and I appreciated little touches like the quality linens and the fact that the shower pressure actually works. Parking can be a bit tricky in this part of Strasbourg – the Old Town streets weren’t exactly designed for cars – but they’ll help you figure it out, and honestly, once you’re settled in, you won’t need your car much anyway.
What I really loved was how it strikes this perfect balance between being refined enough for a special occasion but not so fancy that you feel weird coming back after a day of wandering around in your walking shoes. The staff clearly knows Strasbourg well – they pointed me toward this amazing little winstub (that’s what locals call the traditional restaurants) just around the corner that I never would have found otherwise. The 8.2 rating makes sense to me; it’s not trying to be the flashiest place in town, but everything they do, they do really well. If you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re staying somewhere with character rather than just another generic hotel room, this place gets it right.

Great for a short attractive and smooth stay! – Marcie from United States – 4 June 2025 (9/10)
The room bathroom and bed were very clean and comfortable and by usa standards the mattress was extra long. The provided linens, and shower care products were quite adequate, there were two small water bottles and the possibility to make coffee. Near enough to the train station and older parts of the town. The very modern style bathroom felt luxurious.
What could be improved: Traveling is hard work and a little bigger water bottles would have been nice but it was super essential they were there! The most relaxing accommodations! – Angela from United States – 30 December 2024 (9/10)
Absolutely LOVED the suite and can’t wait to return in 2025
What could be improved: I wish there was someone on staff who could supply additional towels, amenities, etc. as needed. It felt more like an Airbnb than hotel, but loved it either way.Excellent accommodation – Sean from United Kingdom – 18 July 2024 (9/10)
Excellent room layout and space with great light. Shower facilities excellent . Bed very comfortable and linen if excellent quality. Great hot tub in room and spa facilities down stairs.
What could be improved: A little more kitchen ware ie plates, cutlery and glasses. Room could have been freshened in a 4 day stay including at least a change of towels.Very good – Erwin from Germany – 21 May 2024 (8/10)
Tastefully decorated room, fun Spa, spacious room…

What could be improved: No small towels.
Staff not very responsive.Very good – Camille from Netherlands – 6 August 2022 (8/10)
Looks very nice and it is very clean. Everything worked really well and we had a nice stay.
What could be improved: There is no AC 🥵Awesome suite – bad check-in experience – Valentin from Switzerland – 2 August 2022 (7/10)
Spontaneously booked – the suite is very nice, modern, big and comfortable with it‘s whirlpool, rain shower, king size bed and 2 TV‘s.
What could be improved: Unfortunately the „self check-in“ did not work very well. No infos at all, had to search the entrance, calls were not answered and we had to wait 20min until we got the key.
