Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to the ibis Strasbourg Centre Petite France on rue du Faubourg National, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s got that typical ibis chain look, you know? But honestly, this one surprised me in the best way possible.

The thing about this place is the location – and I mean really understanding what that means when you’re actually walking around Strasbourg. You’re maybe a ten-minute walk from the cathedral (those cobblestones will wake you up, trust me), but here’s what the booking sites don’t tell you: you’re right by the train station without being stuck in that weird tourist-trap zone that surrounds most train stations. I actually loved being able to grab my morning coffee from the little bakery around the corner on rue du 22 Novembre – the locals go there, which is always a good sign. The Petite France area itself is about fifteen minutes on foot, and honestly, that walk through the old town is half the experience anyway.

The rooms are… well, they’re ibis rooms. Clean, functional, that slightly industrial vibe they all have. But the beds are actually comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the soundproofing is better than I expected – important when you’re this close to the city center. The shower pressure was solid, which sounds silly until you’ve spent three days with a sad trickle of lukewarm water somewhere else. What I really appreciated was how the staff handled things – check-in was quick, they spoke decent English when my French got rusty, and when I needed directions to find a pharmacy late one evening, the guy at the front desk actually drew me a little map instead of just pointing vaguely down the street.

Here’s something I noticed that might matter to you: the breakfast is typical hotel continental stuff, but it starts early enough that you can actually fuel up before the tourist crowds hit the major sites. And if you’re driving – well, parking in Strasbourg’s old town is basically a nightmare, but this hotel has a garage. It’s not cheap, but it’s there, and that’s worth something when you’re circling narrow medieval streets at 9 PM looking for a spot. The whole area gets pretty lively on weekend evenings (students, locals heading out), but it never felt unsafe or too chaotic. Actually kind of nice to feel like you’re staying somewhere that real people live and work, not just a tourist bubble.

Would I stay here again? Yeah, probably. It’s not going to blow your mind – this is solid, reliable, three-star territory. But sometimes that’s exactly what you want, especially when you’re spending most of your time exploring a city like Strasbourg. The 7.6 rating makes sense to me; it does what it promises without any major surprises, good or bad. Just don’t expect boutique charm or cutting-edge design – expect a clean bed, decent location, and staff who seem to actually care about doing their jobs well.

    Location, affordability, parking

  • Superb – Olena from Portugal – 9 July 2025 (9/10)

We had to wait rather long to check it, but the stuff were very friendly and they even gave a toy-gift to our son, which was very nice. The location is very close to both city and train station, which was important for us. The breakfast is not great, but ok.
