Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Zenao Appart’hôtels? It’s tucked away on this quiet side street – Rue Jacques et René Knecht – which honestly took me a minute to find, but that’s actually part of its charm. You’re literally five minutes from the cathedral and all the tourist madness, but when you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of calm that you just don’t get at the bigger chain places right in the thick of things.

The whole concept here is apartment-style living, which I mean, sounds obvious from the name, but it’s executed really thoughtfully. Each unit has a proper kitchenette – not just a mini-fridge and sad coffee maker situation – so you can actually grab fresh bread from one of the bakeries nearby (there’s this incredible one on Rue du Vieux-Marché-aux-Poissons, maybe a three-minute walk) and have a proper breakfast. The staff seemed genuinely surprised when I asked about restaurant recommendations, probably because most guests end up cooking at least some meals. Smart, honestly, especially if you’re staying more than a night or two.

What I really appreciated was how they’ve managed to keep that residential feel without skimping on the hotel services. Housekeeping was thorough – I’m talking actually cleaning the stovetop, not just making beds – and the front desk folks knew their stuff about getting around the city. One guy there, I think his name was Pierre, gave me this detailed rundown about parking (which, let’s be real, is a nightmare in central Strasbourg) and suggested this spot near Place Kléber that saved me probably twenty euros over the hotel’s own garage. The 7.8 rating makes sense to me – it’s solidly good without being fancy, and there were a few small things that kept it from being exceptional. The WiFi got a bit spotty in the evenings when everyone was streaming, and some of the kitchen equipment looked like it had seen better days. But honestly? For a three-star place that gives you actual living space and puts you this close to Petite France and the European Parliament area, those feel like pretty minor trade-offs.

The neighborhood itself grows on you. It’s residential enough that you’ll hear actual French conversations on the street instead of just tourist chatter, but close enough to everything that you’re never more than a ten-minute walk from wherever you need to be. I ended up loving the morning routine of walking to the little Monoprix nearby for coffee and pastries – felt way more authentic than room service, you know? And if you’re here during summer, the proximity to the river walks along the Ill is perfect for evening strolls when the day-trip crowds have cleared out.

Reviews

  • Comfortable apartment in quiet location near city centre, good value for money. – Michael from United Kingdom – 21 July 2025 (9/10)

Quiet location, spacious apartment near Strasbourg, balcony, park nearby, good value for money.

  • Great city – Amanda from United Kingdom – 12 March 2025 (7/10)

Basic but good value and comfortable and clean and near centre where we could go Xmas markets etc

What could be improved: It was good

  • Superb – Kratika from France – 25 December 2024 (9/10)

    Very good staff and facilities.

What could be improved: The location was pretty far.

  • Superb – Stylianos from Greece – 6 June 2024 (9/10)

Quiet location, in the outskirts of Strasbourg. A tram stop to the center is 10 minutes walk from the hotel. Appartment on the 4th floor was bright and spacious, has a kitchen, microwave oven, large bathroom. Perfect matress, big smart tv. Lovely lady at the reception desk on the first day, warm and helpful (thank you!)

What could be improved: Location might be disappointing for some, since you need at least 30-40 minutes to get anywhere in the center by public transport, which on the other hand is reliable and frequent. Bad smell inside the bathroom, like dead fish and urin, but gets tolerable if you open the windows for a couple of hours. I wouldnt consider this as a dealbreaker since there are 2 doors between the bathroom and the main room, which makes things a little better.

  • Overall, it was OK. – Leopold from Kuwait – 21 June 2025 (8/10)

The location was great, quiet, and green.
    The balcony.

What could be improved: Bed size.
There is no service for 5 nights. Nobody picks the garbage. We had to take it somewhere out of the building.
    Some smells in some room.
You have to meet and see every time elderly people who are leaving there.

  • Hidden fees – Francesco from United Kingdom – 30 April 2025 (8/10)

    Cosy

What could be improved: Extra tax to pay???

  • Good – Claudio from Spain – 15 October 2024 (7/10)

The house was big enough and had a huge terrace.

What could be improved: The building is actually an ospice for elder people. This means that the apartments are built and equipped thinking on their needs, which mean that, for instance, the bathroom has a part that works as shower without courtains so that the floor got easily wet everywhere.
Distance from the center can be a problem above all if you plan to go out for the night.

  • Great value for money. – Judineni from Belgium – 11 February 2024 (8/10)

The room was very spacious, the bed very comfortable and although I arrived before the official check-in time, I was able to occupy my room.

What could be improved: I was unable to pay the tourism tax by card. Have cash with you!

  • Good – Javiera from France – 2 January 2024 (7/10)

We stayed in Zenao for 5 days to visit the cities of Strasbourg, Colmar and Baden Baden through the Christmas period.
The residence is within an retirement home so all of the facilities are not to be used by the people staying in Zenao but by the residents.
This was a disappointment as we needed to wash our clothes and we were not allowed to use the washing facilities.
The apartment was comfortable and big for the 2 of us and our small dog. Very modern facilities, and really calm environment.
Sadly the kitchen did not have enough equipment, something that can be solved easily by buying a few extra things like a colander for draining pasta or a few frying pans. They also did not leave us much toilet paper or dishwashing liquid. We arrived late in the evening so next morning we had to rush to a supermarket to buy the things we needed.
Overall ok experience, but it could be easily improved with a few extra things.

What could be improved: Get a few more things for cooking like a colander for pasta and at least one frying pan.
Leave the apartment for the guests with some rolls of toilet paper and dishwashing liquid (Odalys does this already).
As it is an accommodation were people could stay for long, please leave some cleaning equipment! We had no dustpan, broom or anything to clean and sweep the floor which of course after so many days started to feel dirty (the floors in the apartment were not properly vacuumed as there was dust and some cobwebs).

All of this is very easy to solve, as, as I said before, the place is nice modern and in a quiet area but within easy reach of the city centre.

  • Good – Helga from Iceland – 11 July 2024 (7/10)

    The room was OK.

What could be improved: Cleaning was not to our usual standard. Lacking of basic things like a proper knife. If you are going to clean the kitchen utilities there was nothing to use to do the dishes.
