Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Studio Cathedrale? The name isn’t just marketing fluff – you’re literally a stone’s throw from Strasbourg Cathedral, and I mean literally. Walking up to 34 Rue de l’Ail (which honestly sounds way fancier than it is), you’re already hearing those massive bells if you arrive around noon. The building itself is classic Strasbourg – that beautiful Alsatian architecture that makes you feel like you’re in a fairy tale, even if you’re just hauling your suitcase up to the second floor. And yes, it’s a proper walk-up, so pack light or embrace the impromptu workout.

What I actually loved about this place was how it nails that sweet spot between being right in the thick of things without the tourist trap chaos. Sure, you’re close enough to the cathedral that you’ll probably end up there three times during your stay (the lighting changes throughout the day – trust me on this), but Rue de l’Ail itself is refreshingly normal. There’s a boulangerie around the corner where locals actually go, and the morning smell of fresh bread sort of drifts up to the studio windows. The space itself feels genuinely lived-in rather than sterile hotel-clean, which I mean as a compliment. It’s got character – exposed beams, windows that actually open (rare these days), and enough room to spread out without feeling like you’re camping in a closet. The 8.4 rating makes sense once you’re there; it’s not trying to be a luxury experience, but everything works properly and the details are thoughtful. Honestly, the bed was better than I expected for a 3-star spot.

Here’s the thing about staying this central in Strasbourg – you’re going to hear the city. Not obnoxiously, but you know you’re in a living, breathing place. The cathedral bells become oddly comforting after the first day, and the evening sounds from the nearby restaurants actually add to the atmosphere rather than disrupting it. What really won me over was the location for exploring beyond the obvious tourist stuff. You’re perfectly positioned to wander into Petite France without the morning tour bus crowds, and honestly, some of my best Strasbourg moments happened just by stepping out the front door and following whatever street looked interesting. The whole Rue de l’Ail area has this authentic neighborhood feel that you miss when you’re staying in the more generic hotel districts. If you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re experiencing a place rather than just visiting it, Studio Cathedrale gets that balance right.

Reviews

  • Very good – Antony from France – 23 June 2025 (8/10)

La situation du studio est top

  • I did’t receive any check-in instructions upon my arrival althought I tried to informed him my ETA. The worst is I could – Nguyen from Poland – 4 May 2025 (8/10)

The appartment is very clean and right in the catering area, closed to the Cathedral square

What could be improved: The host is not responsive

  • If you can’t carry your luggage up stairs don’t consider this place. Location was great and kitchen had everything you n – Linda from Australia – 15 December 2024 (7/10)

We were right on top of the Xmas markets, so we could drop purchases off and pop home for lunch.
We had trouble with the TV. Carlos came and fixed it straight away which was appreciated.

What could be improved: The stairs were a nightmare. Very steep and in a spiral. We had to carry large heavy suitcases up 2 flights. It was super hard and a bit dangerous. Anyone above 30 should not consider.
The bed had to be accessed from the bottom and then crawl up to the pillow. We also found the window from the bathroom over looking the bed just weird. If privacy is your thing then you haven’t got it. .
Wifi dropped out and we couldn’t get it back but we were leaving the next day.

  • Worth the money – Thu from Netherlands – 23 July 2024 (8/10)

Easy check-in. Super convenient to explore Strasbourg as the studio is right in the center.

What could be improved: The communication between the guest and the host could be better. No major issue happened, but I did try to text and call the host to ask about possible parking spaces, but I never received any answer and had to look for it myself.

  • Superb – Yasmina from Spain – 16 December 2023 (9/10)

I like the area where it was placed. The studio itself has everything you need and the windows are not on the street side, you could enjoy a really relaxing place while in the city center. I would choose this place back again.

What could be improved: There is nothing really bad, just things to improve or to keep in mind. For example, it's on the second floor without a lift, so it wasn't a problem for me but I could understand someone who does. And there were no mops, so for example, in the bathroom, there is a small leak from the shower next to the toilet that could show a little bit of water, and you don't have anything to dry it. Those things, as I said, are just things to improve or take in mind. The place has all the commodities that we could wish for.

  • Would stay again. – Olya from United States – 10 November 2023 (8/10)

Amazing location and well supplied cute, clean studio

What could be improved: The bed is high, enclosed on 3 sides and hard to get in and out.

  • Good – Valeria from Italy – 1 December 2022 (7/10)

The position is close to the Cathedral. The apartment is clean and well equipped. The position ensures silence in the night. Bed is comfortable and warm. The shower is very beatiful and big; the professional hairdryer works very well. Overall the apartment is little but nice. Carlos, the owner, answers immediately to messages and is very kind.

What could be improved: This is only a minor suggestion: a guide with instructions on "how to do" (e.g. use the TV, microwave oven, heaters, etc) is missing. Also a map of the city or a brochure with attractions would be useful.

  • Good – Stefan from New Zealand – 5 July 2024 (7/10)

    Location, small cost apartment

What could be improved: There is a window (gap) between the head of the bed and the toilet covered with only a blind. So it's fine if you are that intimate (💩) with who you are staying with. Everything else was good

  • Exceptional – Ibrahim from Romania – 26 May 2025 (10/10)

    It’s just next to Centre

  • Fantastic and lovely accomadation. – James from United Kingdom – 22 December 2024 (10/10)

The room is in a fantastic location. The room is cozy with everything you need.
