Hotel Description

So here’s the thing about Studio Castelnau – it’s one of those places that grows on you, you know? When I first walked up to the building on Rue du Général de Castelnau, I’ll be honest, it didn’t exactly scream “wow me.” It’s tucked into this quiet residential street that feels more like where locals actually live than where tourists usually end up, which honestly turned out to be pretty great.

The whole setup is basically what you’d expect from a solid 3-star in Strasbourg – nothing fancy, but they’ve got the essentials sorted. What actually surprised me was how much I ended up appreciating the neighborhood vibe. You’re maybe a 10-minute walk from the cathedral (I timed it because I’m weird like that), but you’re not dealing with all the tourist chaos right outside your window. The street itself is super quiet – I mean, sometimes almost eerily quiet at night, which was perfect for sleeping but might feel a bit isolated if you’re the type who likes buzzing nightlife right at your doorstep.

The rooms are… well, they’re studio-style, so don’t expect separate living areas or anything, but there’s something kind of charming about the simplicity. Mine had this little kitchenette that was actually functional – not just decorative like some places do. The shower had decent water pressure (always a gamble in older European buildings), and honestly, the bed was way more comfortable than I expected for the price point. What I really appreciated was that they seemed to understand that business travelers use this place a lot – there were plenty of outlets, decent WiFi, and a proper desk setup that didn’t make me want to work from the bed all day. The 7.1 rating feels about right, actually – it’s not going to blow your mind, but there weren’t any major disappointments either.

Here’s what I wish someone had told me before booking: if you’re planning to explore Strasbourg on foot, this location is actually brilliant. You can walk to Petite France in about 15 minutes, and there’s this little bakery two blocks down (I think it’s on Rue de la Krutenau?) that does incredible pain au chocolat – way better than the touristy spots near the cathedral. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle if you’re driving, though the hotel staff were pretty helpful with suggestions. Oh, and if you’re here in summer, the lack of air conditioning might bother some people, but the building stays surprisingly cool, and you can actually open the windows without getting blasted by street noise since it’s such a quiet area. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was in town for work or wanted to experience Strasbourg more like a temporary resident than a tourist checking boxes.

Many travelers prefer to book apartments in Strasbourg through local agencies that offer personalized recommendations and insider knowledge about the best neighborhoods for exploring the city’s rich Franco-German heritage.

Reviews

  • Pleasant – Maguire from Australia – 7 January 2025 (6/10)

    Location, cleanliness.

What could be improved: The 1m high door to get in the property wasn't really clear. Inability to control the climate due to hot pipes running through the apartment

  • Tolle, weiterzuempfehlende Unterkunft – Désirée from Switzerland – 3 January 2025 (8/10)

Tolle Lage, gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis, genügend Platz, Haartrockner, Duschtücher und Bügelbrett vorhanden, lustige Eingangatür, gut beheizt, einfaches und unkompliziertes Check-In/Check-out, bequemes Bett und Sofa

What could be improved: Auf den 1.

  • Superb – Maja from Switzerland – 1 November 2024 (9/10)

Lage ist super! Ruhig und dennoch zentral.
    Super gepflegt.

  • Perfecto para descansar y visitar alrededores. – José from Spain – 2 January 2025 (9/10)

    1) Tranquilidad del entorno
    2) Apartamento en si.
    3) Cercanía tanto a pie como a paradas tranvía/bus

What could be improved: 1) La entrada y salida del estudio era algo incómoda.
    2) No entiendo por qué no se prepara el sofá cama para la tercera persona

  • Bad – Gozana from Spain – 14 April 2025 (1/10)

  • Exceptional – Lefebvre from France – 22 April 2025 (10/10)
