Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Student Factory Strasbourg Etoile on Rue de Lausanne, I wasn’t expecting much from what sounds like glorified dorm housing. But you know what? This place actually surprised me. Sure, it’s designed with students in mind, but it’s got this clean, no-nonsense vibe that works really well for travelers who want something modern without the fuss. The lobby has this industrial-chic thing going on – exposed concrete, pops of bright color, and furniture that looks like it could survive a small army of backpackers (which it probably does). The staff at check-in were refreshingly straightforward, none of that overly polished hotel speak you get at fancier places.
The location is honestly pretty solid – you’re in the Esplanade district, which I mean, isn’t the postcard-pretty Petite France area everyone Instagram posts about, but it’s got its own thing going on. You’re a quick tram ride from the cathedral (seriously, tram line A is right there), and there’s this whole student quarter energy around you with decent cafés and that relaxed evening buzz. Plus, if you’re driving, parking isn’t the nightmare it is closer to the historic center. The rooms themselves are compact but thoughtfully laid out – someone clearly spent time figuring out how to fit everything you actually need without making it feel cramped. The beds are surprisingly comfortable, and the soundproofing is better than I expected given all the student activity in the area. I stayed during a weeknight in October, and while you can hear some street noise during the day, evenings were pretty quiet.
What really works about this place is that it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. The breakfast setup is simple but good – fresh bread, decent coffee, nothing fancy but it gets the job done. The common areas have this communal feel that’s actually kind of nice if you’re traveling solo and don’t mind chatting with other guests. And honestly, for the price point and that 8.3 rating, it makes sense. You’re getting clean, modern accommodation in a city where hotel prices can get pretty steep, especially during Christmas market season or when the European Parliament is in session. It’s not going to wow you with luxury touches, but if you want a solid base for exploring Strasbourg without breaking the bank – and you don’t need hand towels folded into swan shapes – this place delivers exactly what it promises.

very good location, clean, quiet.
Amazing stay walking distance from all the attractions – Alexandra from Hungary – 18 June 2025 (9/10)
I had an amazing stay at this property. It was walking distance from everything I wanted to visit, had a wonderful view over the city and the sunset too and it was perfectly clean.
What could be improved: There was no AC which made my nights a bit difficult when the outside temperature was around 35°C, but that's about it.
There was a fan instead so I managed.Good value for money – Gulmaral from Hungary – 12 May 2025 (7/10)
The location is perfect. It's close to Notr Dame Cathedral. There is a supermarket right in front of the building. The place was very clean. And it has a small kitchen in the room which is quite helpful.
What could be improved: The check-in is really really late at 4pm. And beware that there are some days when reception isnot available without prior notice and if there is a problem with self check-in, there is no one to ask for help. We had a problem with self check-in, and as there was no one we tried calling their phone numbers but they didnt pick up. In the end we figured out the problem by ourselves, but we were very disappointed with their staff. We had no contact with the staff for 2 nights we stayed there. Also, there was no kettle in the room or in the common area, which was inconvenient.Good deal, well located, quiet and clean room. – Laura from France – 20 February 2025 (9/10)
Well located, very clean, not noise and comfy beds.
What could be improved: At the check in, we had an issue with the key but it was a matter of minutes and the stuff helped us and gave us a solution.Nice and clean stay close to the center – B from Belgium – 27 January 2025 (8/10)
It was clean and has a kitchen, fridge and you get a free snack and coffee which was very nice. Mayor attractions were within walking distance (20 min max.)
Clean modern mini studio near central Strasbourg – Laura from France – 17 October 2024 (9/10)
Clean room with a mini kitchen perfect for buying groceries or microwaving what you need. 7th floor room, beautiful view of the Strasbourg cathedral. Easy to check in independently. I got an email the morning of saying my room got upgraded for free, so I enjoyed a spacious room. The building is very close to city centre by walking distance, and there is a popular tram stop only 2 minute walk away. Shower and bathroom well-equipped. The shower comes with a 3-in-1 body and hair shampoo dispenser, but I brought my own shampoo and conditioner. Good water pressure and hot water comes quickly. I would stay here again 🙂
What could be improved: I didn’t realize there would be a room cleaning service during my one-week stay so it was a surprise to come into the room Monday evening and to see my bed made and towels changed. It’s good but I prefer not to have room cleaning to avoid people entering the room without me, so I would have asked to avoid cleaning. Also, the bed was a bit firm, could have been comfier.Good value for not too much money. – Elena from Austria – 6 October 2024 (8/10)
It‘s located close to the centre of Strasbourg, you can reach everything by foot. Check-in was very easy. Our room was clean and we happened to have a nice view of the cathedral, which we really liked. It’s equipped with very the most basic things you need for a short stay. Compared to other hotels/hostels the price we paid was reasonable.
What could be improved: It‘s very small, smaller than it looks in the pictures. The bed is big enough for a couple but probably not for friends. There are no power outlets next to the bed and no dish soap to use for the dishes. These, however, are neglectable points.Superb – Tamara from Australia – 1 September 2024 (9/10)
Very clean, nice view and pretty quiet.
It was extremely warm due to weather, but I requested a fan and received one as soon as the office was open.
What could be improved: 4pm is quite late for a check in time. There is no option to do earlier.Great location, good facilities, and good staff for a good price. Would stay there again! – Joanne from United States – 25 July 2024 (9/10)
Great location between the tran station and the Petit France, just right across the bridge from this historic section.
What could be improved: Well, the fire alarm awoke us at 6:00…..but just smoke from the cafe microwave…..otherwise a great stay.Very good – Lisle from France – 1 July 2024 (8/10)
The co-working space was great, the location is very close to the city center in front of a supermarket and bus stop. The facilities were very nice and clean!
What could be improved: The door to the hall kept banging very loudly at all hours of the night and the wifi didn't connect to a few devices
