Hotel Description

Look, when I first saw “Strasbourg bel appartement gare” I’ll admit I was a bit skeptical – the name basically just tells you it’s near the train station, which honestly could go either way. But you know what? Sometimes the straightforward places surprise you, and this one actually did.

The location on Rue d’Obernai is kind of perfect if you think about it. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from Gare Centrale, which sounds potentially awful for noise, but the street itself is actually pretty quiet – it’s one of those side streets that locals use as a shortcut but doesn’t get the full chaos of the main drags. The building has that typical Alsatian feel (well, sort of – it’s not one of those picture-perfect half-timbered places you see in the old town, but it’s got character). What I really appreciated was how easy it made everything – you can dump your bags, walk to the station, and be in the Petite France area in maybe fifteen minutes total. Or honestly, just wander down toward Place Kléber and you’re in the thick of things.

The apartment itself is… well, it’s a solid 3-star experience, which matches the 7.3 rating pretty perfectly. Nothing’s going to blow you away, but nothing’s going to disappoint you either. The rooms are clean and functional – I actually liked that they didn’t try to over-decorate with fake French provincial stuff like some places do. The beds are comfortable enough (though if you’re super picky about firmness, you might want to request specifics when you book). What surprised me was how quiet it stays at night – I was worried about train noise, but the windows are decent and Rue d’Obernai doesn’t get much late-night traffic. The WiFi actually works, which honestly isn’t always a given in these converted apartment buildings.

Parking can be a bit of a puzzle – there’s street parking but it fills up fast, especially during the Christmas market season when Strasbourg goes absolutely nuts with tourists. I’d recommend asking about their parking situation when you book, because hunting for a spot with your luggage isn’t fun. The check-in was pretty smooth, though they do that thing where you have to coordinate your arrival time, which is normal for apartment-style places but worth remembering if you’re the type who just shows up whenever.

Here’s the thing – this isn’t going to be your Instagram-worthy Alsatian fairy tale stay, but if you want a clean, reasonably priced base for exploring Strasbourg without dealing with hotel breakfast schedules and tiny elevator queues, it works really well. The value is solid, especially if you’re planning to spend most of your time wandering around the cathedral area or taking day trips into the Alsace wine country. Plus, having that train station so close makes it ridiculously easy to hop over to Germany for a day – Kehl is literally just across the Rhine, and you can be in Baden-Baden in like an hour if you want to mix things up.

Travelers should reserve a hotel in Strasbourg at least two months ahead of their visit to ensure availability and secure better rates, especially during the peak December season when the city hosts its world-famous Christmas celebrations.

Reviews

  • very good, very good – Luana from Switzerland – 14 May 2025 (8/10)

Just like the pictures, looks new and is spacious.
The location is good, 10 minute walk to Barrage Vauban, 15 minute walk from Petite-France.

Traveling with a baby means we spend half of the trip at the airbnb, and this one was comfortable and very clean for a relaxing holiday. The TV has youtube and Netflix (your own account but don't forget to log out after ahah).

I would stay there again, it's a good choice for parents with kids too.

What could be improved: You should take your own stuff if you want to eat at the airbnb. Some people buy disposable tableware, I bought real cute tablewear at Primark and Hema and brought them home after, either way don't expect to cook or eat there if you don't bring your own stuff.
If it's cold, there isn't enough bedding for 3+ people.
