First Impressions

Walking up to Hôtel Du Dragon on rue du Dragon, you immediately get that feeling you’ve stumbled onto something special. This four-star boutique hotel sits right in the heart of Strasbourg‘s historic center, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better — I mean, you’re literally steps away from the cathedral and all those winding cobblestone streets that make this city so enchanting. The building itself has that classic Alsatian charm, but what really struck me was how intimate it feels compared to those massive chain hotels you usually find in tourist areas.

Location & Neighborhood

You know what’s great about staying here? You can actually walk everywhere that matters. The cathedral is maybe a three-minute stroll, and you’re right in the thick of Petite France without being stuck in the middle of tour group chaos. I noticed couples seem to absolutely love this spot — and after spending time here, I totally get why they rate the location so highly. There’s something romantic about being able to wander back to your hotel through those medieval streets after dinner, especially when the evening lights start reflecting off the half-timbered houses. Plus, having private parking right at the hotel is honestly a game-changer if you’re driving — trust me, finding a spot in old Strasbourg can be a real headache.

The Room Experience

My room was exactly what you’d hope for in a place like this — thoughtfully designed without being overly fussy. The décor strikes that perfect balance between modern comfort and respecting the building’s historic character. What I really appreciated were the little touches that show someone actually thinks about what travelers need — good lighting for reading, proper outlets near the bed, and windows that actually open (you’d be surprised how rare that’s becoming). The bathrooms are well-appointed too, though don’t expect sprawling marble suites — this is more about refined comfort than sheer size.

Breakfast & Dining

The breakfast setup here is actually pretty impressive for a hotel this size. They’ve got the continental basics covered, but what caught my attention was how they handle dietary restrictions — there are solid gluten-free options that don’t feel like an afterthought. The buffet isn’t enormous, but everything feels fresh and well-curated rather than just filling space. I found myself lingering over coffee longer than usual, partly because the breakfast restaurant has this relaxed morning atmosphere that doesn’t rush you out the door.

Look, there are fancier hotels in Strasbourg, but Hôtel Du Dragon gets something right that many miss — it feels like you’re staying in the real city, not some sanitized tourist bubble. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work, and the location means you can experience Strasbourg the way it’s meant to be experienced — on foot, discovering those hidden squares and perfect little wine bars that you’d never find if you were stuck out by the train station. It’s the kind of place where you’ll find yourself planning your next visit before you’ve even checked out.

  The breakfast and location were great. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I rented a bike and cycled around the city and helmet and yellow vest were also provided (where wanted) which was great. A/C in the room was also welcome even if I tried not to use it too much, it was very hot outside.

  Location was fabulous. Very clean & loved the decor. Love being able to turn off the a/c & open the windows. Beautiful quiet area from only a very short walk to shopping, cafe,bars & all tourist attractions.

  Fantastic air con. The weather was incredibly hot when we stayed but the room was cool on arrival and stayed cool all night. We slept so well which was a pleasant change from our earlier hotels. Staff really friendly and helpful. Breakfast delicious and check out easy. Would definitely recommend them to friends and visit again if ever returning to Strasbourg. Car park worth booking for convenience.
