Hotel Description

Honestly, when I first walked up to Résidence La Canopée on Rue Jacques Kablé, I wasn’t sure what to expect – it’s tucked away in this quiet residential stretch that feels refreshingly removed from the tourist madness around the cathedral. But you know what? That’s exactly what makes it work. The building has this understated French elegance that doesn’t try too hard, and the moment you step inside, there’s this sense of calm that you don’t get at those big chain hotels cramming people in near Petite France.

The location is actually pretty brilliant once you figure it out. You’re maybe a 12-minute walk to the historic center, but here’s the thing – you’ll want to make that walk because you’ll pass through some genuinely lovely neighborhoods that most visitors never see. There’s a fantastic boulangerie just two blocks down that locals line up at every morning (trust me on this), and the tram stop on Avenue de la Forêt-Noire is close enough that you can easily hop over to the European Quarter if that’s your thing. I mean, parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this area, but the hotel staff actually knows the neighborhood well enough to give you real advice, not just vague gestures toward “somewhere nearby.”

What really got me about this place was the attention to the small stuff that matters when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. The rooms have proper blackout curtains – and I mean proper ones, not those flimsy things that let streetlight leak in at 5 AM. The kitchenettes are surprisingly well-equipped; you can actually cook a decent meal if you want to grab ingredients from the Monoprix down the street. The Wi-Fi works everywhere (tested extensively), and honestly, the whole place just feels thoughtfully put together rather than thrown together. Sure, it’s a 3-star property so you’re not getting marble bathrooms or concierge service, but the 8.1 rating makes total sense when you consider what you’re actually getting for the price point. The staff – particularly this one woman at reception whose name I unfortunately forgot – seem to genuinely care about whether you’re having a good stay, which sounds cheesy but you notice the difference. It gets pretty quiet at night too, which is golden if you’re trying to recover from a day of wandering around Strasbourg’s cobblestones.

To book a hotel in Strasbourg during the famous Christmas Market season, visitors should make reservations well in advance as the city attracts holiday enthusiasts and culture lovers from around the world.

Reviews

  • Central, clean, good – Mari from Estonia – 5 July 2025 (9/10)

I have been in this establishment many times. This time I need to appraise the receptionists – both during the check in and check out. I was able to store my bag on both occasions and my needs were well-facilitated. This is certainly a major improvement. Otherwise advantages of this place is that it is in well-built stone building meaning that you do not hear the neighbours. Which is not the case in many other places in Strasbourg. Room has a small kitchenette with all basic utensils, hair dryer, WiFi. Downstairs is gym with 4 cardio machines (no weights) open 24/7. Size of the room is reasonable and cleanliness is on acceptable level.

What could be improved: I remain hopeful that operations of WiFi would be also improved. It requires daily log-in or even more often, which is an annoyance. Given that there is a kettle in the room with some coffee/tea, would be nice if the quantity would take into account also nights spent in the establishment.
In the future some sort of lockers or room (with a code lock, for example) to leave the luggage would be extremely useful and appreciated. I have always missed this option considering the limited working hours of the reception.

  • Very good – Crista from Germany – 8 June 2025 (8/10)

Good for 2 nights, clean and easy access to city center.

What could be improved: The bathroom is very small, there is no mirror and very few outlets.

  • Very good – Nuria from Spain – 27 May 2025 (8/10)

  • Superb – Lindsay from Australia – 22 May 2025 (9/10)

Excellent location for our one night stay. Clean and tidy with small kitchenette.

  • A comfortable and clean base for our stay in Strasbourg. We didn’t use the kitchen really but appreciated the tea and co – Katie from United Kingdom – 14 May 2025 (8/10)

Shout out the receptionist who leant us her own adapter when ours broke down.

What could be improved: Room was a little hot

  • Superb – Miguel from Portugal – 28 April 2025 (9/10)

The location was great and the check in seamless

  • Superb – Ching from Taiwan – 28 April 2025 (9/10)

closed to the center. 10 min. by walk.

What could be improved: shower area just seprates from the toilet by shower curtain and there is no segmentataion on the floow or the floor will be very wet after shower. Almost everwhere is water on the floor.

  • Basic accommodation for a short period. – Marcel from Netherlands – 27 April 2025 (7/10)

    Clean an acceptable location

What could be improved: The bare minimum with a small bed 2 uncomfortable kitchen chairs and a table of 60 x 40 cm.
The parking was available but extremely difficult to park in.
Checking details and reception were good but checkout was unclear.

  • Very good value.clean and comfortable – Peter from United Kingdom – 9 April 2025 (8/10)

Well equipped for 2 people clean and comfortable. Parking

What could be improved: A bit of a walk to town. 25 minutes to the centre which isn’t that far but you should be aware

  • Almost perfect with a few niggles – Christopher from Belgium – 13 March 2025 (7/10)

Spacious apartment, well located a short walk from public transport. Good shower and mattress. Kind, accommodating staff.

What could be improved: No coffee machine or cafetière – so no way to make real coffee! There were only sachets of instant coffee provided. The pillows were very soft and spongy. Both of these were big problems for me!
