Mercure Strasbourg Centre Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Mercure Strasbourg Centre, you immediately get that “right in the thick of things” feeling that makes city breaks so exciting. This four-star hotel sits on Rue Thomann, which honestly couldn’t be better positioned if you tried — you’re literally steps away from everything that makes Strasbourg worth visiting. The lobby has that polished Mercure vibe without feeling stuffy, and the staff actually seem to know the city well enough to give you proper recommendations.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s what I love about this spot — you can walk to the cathedral in about five minutes, but you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos right outside your window. The Petite France district is an easy stroll away, and if you’re into the European Parliament thing, that’s totally doable too. What really sold me though was how couples seem to absolutely love it here (they rate the location 9.0, which is pretty impressive). It’s romantic enough for a weekend getaway but practical enough that you’re not spending half your day getting places.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from a solid four-star — clean, comfortable, and designed by someone who actually travels. Nothing groundbreaking, but everything worked properly, which honestly is half the battle these days. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable), and the bathrooms are modern enough that you don’t feel like you’re roughing it. Plus, there’s something reassuring about staying with a brand that knows what they’re doing.
Breakfast and Practical Bits
The breakfast setup is actually pretty smart — they do continental, buffet, and even breakfast to go if you’re one of those people who likes to eat while exploring. The buffet has all the usual suspects, but it’s done well, and the coffee doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting around since yesterday. There’s also private parking at the hotel, which might not sound exciting but trust me, if you’re driving in Strasbourg, you’ll be grateful for it. City center parking can be a real headache otherwise.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps people coming back here is that perfect balance — you get the reliability of a good chain hotel but with a location that independent boutique places would kill for. The 7.4 rating tells the real story — it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it delivers exactly what most travelers actually want. You’re paying for that prime location and the peace of mind that comes with staying somewhere that just works. For exploring Strasbourg properly, you really can’t ask for much more than that. This hotel represents excellent value for discerning travelers seeking authentic city center experiences.

The room was quite big, quiet and the bed very comfortable. The breakfast in the top terrace was very complete and the views very nice.
What could be improved: A bit expensive price for the state of the hotel, needs some renovations, especially when it comes to the rooms.Perfect Location and Great Breakfast – Angélica from Switzerland – 25 May 2023 (8/10)
The location was ideal, walking distance to all the touristic points. The room was comfortable, with a nice view and clean. The parking is on the same building, so very convenient. The best was the breakfast, tasty, varied and until 11:00 AM 😀 Also the view from the terrace is amazing.
What could be improved: My only complaint is there was no elevator from the parking to the reception, you have to carry everything upstairs.Good – Marketa_ from Czech Republic – 23 May 2023 (7/10)
Great hotel location within walking distance of major sights and to the train station, quiet overnight, very comfortable beds + two pillows, spacious bedroom and bathroom, friendly staff
What could be improved: Old furnishings – rooms would need renovation, little emphasis on ecology (impractical disposable cups instead of glass), expensive breakfast
