You know what caught me off guard about Lumineux – L’Envol – Terrasse? The name sounds way fancier than what you’re actually getting, but honestly, that worked in my favor. I walked up to this narrow building on Rue d’Altorf expecting some pretentious boutique place and instead found something much more… well, human-sized, I guess.

The location is actually pretty clever if you know Strasbourg at all. You’re tucked away from the main tourist chaos around the cathedral, but it’s literally a 12-minute walk to Grande Île – I timed it because I’m weird like that. What I really appreciated was being close enough to Parc de l’Orangerie that I could jog there in the mornings without dealing with tram schedules. The street itself is quiet, which means you can actually sleep with your windows open in summer (trust me on this – some Strasbourg hotels sit on roads that turn into highways at 6 AM).

Here’s the thing about 3-star places in France – they can either feel like they’re trying too hard or not trying at all. This one falls somewhere in the middle, and I mean that as a compliment. The rooms aren’t going to blow your mind, but they’re thoughtfully put together. The terrasse they mention in the name? It’s not huge, but if you snag one of those rooms, you get this nice little outdoor space that feels surprisingly private. I spent way too much time out there with morning coffee, watching the neighborhood wake up. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – no unnecessary upselling or complicated key card explanations, just “here’s your room, breakfast is until 10, need anything else?”

What bumped this place up for me was the staff actually knowing their city. When I asked about good spots for dinner that weren’t tourist traps, they didn’t just hand me a generic brochure – they sent me to this little winstub about six blocks away that I never would’ve found otherwise. Small thing, but it matters when you’re trying to eat like a human being instead of a walking wallet. The 7.8 rating makes sense to me – it’s not perfect (the WiFi got spotty on the upper floors, and honestly, the breakfast was pretty standard continental stuff), but it does what it promises without any weird surprises. Sometimes that’s exactly what you want, especially in a city like Strasbourg where you’re going to spend most of your time wandering around outside anyway.

  The house is great, spacious, well equipped, and cozy.
  rooms are big, good beds and the shower is good as well.

  What could be improved: The location is a bit far from the city center, but there is a tram stop nearby that takes you there in 15 minutes. The only downside was that there were not many shops or restaurants within walking distance, so we had to drive or take the tram for everything.

  What could be improved: No parking at all, almost impossible to enter the aparment, dirty, not cleaned at all, the cleaning crew has the password at the same time as you, so they can enter whenever they want, the owner doesn't answer when you contact him/her – at the end I had to book a hotel for my stay. Very, very dissapointed! I lost 400 euros, that the owner won't return even though I never used the aparment – don't make my mistake.
