You know what struck me first about Logis Hôtel Ettenheim? It’s tucked right into Place de l’Hôpital in a way that feels genuinely Strasbourgeois – not like those chain hotels that could be anywhere. I mean, you’re literally steps from the cathedral’s spires, but the location doesn’t scream tourist trap. It’s more like discovering a well-kept secret that locals actually respect.

The building itself has that classic Alsatian charm without being overly precious about it. Walking in, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually cares about the details here – the kind of place where the front desk staff remembers your name by day two (honestly, that’s rarer than it should be). The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully appointed rather than flashy. Everything works properly, the beds are genuinely comfortable, and – this matters more than people think – the water pressure is excellent. I stayed in October when Strasbourg gets those crisp mornings, and the heating was spot-on without being stuffy.

What really sets this place apart, though, is how it sits in the neighborhood. You’re a five-minute walk from Rue des Grandes Arcades for serious shopping, but if you head the other direction toward Rue du Maroquin, you’ll find those tiny bistros where you hear more Alsatian dialect than tourist English. The hotel staff actually knows which boulangerie opens earliest (it’s the one near Rue des Serruriers, by the way) and they’ll steer you toward the Saturday market on Place du Marché aux Poissons instead of the more obvious tourist spots. That kind of local knowledge makes a difference when you’re trying to experience Strasbourg rather than just photograph it.

Parking can be a bit of a dance – well, it’s Strasbourg, so that’s hardly surprising – but they’ve worked out arrangements that actually make sense. The whole area gets wonderfully quiet after 9 PM, which means you can keep your windows open without dealing with street noise all night. During Christmas market season (and honestly, you should experience that at least once), the location becomes even more special because you’re close enough to enjoy the magic but far enough from the main crush to retreat when you need a breather.

The 8.4 rating feels about right – it’s the kind of place that does everything well without trying to be something it’s not. I’ve stayed in fancier hotels that left me feeling less satisfied, if that makes sense. This is hospitality that feels authentic to the place you’re visiting, which is exactly what you want when you’re exploring a city like Strasbourg.

  The beds were very comfortable and the room was exactly as pictured and described. The staff met us and helped us find our rooms and get settled. We were jet lagged and so that was helpful.

  Clean and quiet hotel. The size of the triple room was perfect for us that travelled with a baby. Location is great to visit the city but outside of the crowds. Breakfast was nice. Good AC in the room, we had a couple of very warm days in Strasbourg.
