Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about Le Lohkäs? The name sounds like some Nordic fever dream, but this place is actually tucked right into Petite France – and I mean *right* into it. Walking down rue du Bain aux Plantes, you’d almost miss the entrance if you weren’t looking for it, which honestly feels pretty fitting for Strasbourg’s most photogenic neighborhood. The whole triplex loft thing isn’t just marketing speak either – they’ve genuinely carved out these vertical spaces that feel more like staying in someone’s impossibly cool apartment than a traditional hotel room. The design is what you’d call aggressively modern, all clean lines and dramatic lighting, which creates this interesting tension with the half-timbered medieval buildings literally right outside your window.

Here’s the thing about the location though – it’s simultaneously perfect and slightly chaotic. You’re maybe a three-minute stumble from all those postcard-worthy canals and the Ponts Couverts, plus you can practically roll out of bed and grab coffee at one of the little spots along Quai de la Bruche. But (and this is important if you’re a light sleeper) those charming cobblestone streets weren’t exactly designed for modern delivery trucks, and the sound echoes off all that old stonework in ways that’ll wake you up at 6 AM. I mean, it’s not terrible – just reality in a neighborhood that’s been around since the 1200s. The check-in process was refreshingly straightforward, though the staff seemed to assume everyone speaks French, which, fair enough, we’re in France. Parking is basically forget about it unless you want to pay through the nose at one of the public lots, but honestly, once you’re settled in Petite France, everything worth seeing is walkable anyway.

What really sets this place apart is how they’ve managed to make a 3-star property feel boutique-y without trying too hard. The rooms have this loft aesthetic that actually works – high ceilings, interesting angles, and these massive windows that flood everything with light during the day. Sure, the 7.4 rating tells you it’s not going to be flawless, and you’ll notice things like the shower pressure being a bit temperamental and maybe some street noise, but there’s something genuinely charming about staying somewhere that feels integrated into the neighborhood rather than dropped on top of it. If you’re the type who wants to experience Strasbourg like you’re temporarily living there rather than just passing through, this works. Just pack earplugs and embrace the fact that you’re staying in a place where tourists have been wandering around taking photos for literally centuries.

Reviews

  • Great location but spoilt by the access and smell of drains. – Janice from United Kingdom – 13 October 2024 (6/10)

    Excellent location.

What could be improved: The entrance through the back yard of a restaurant.
The smell of drains which was very unpleasant and made us feel unwell.

  • Gorgeous apartment – Emanuela from Australia – 12 July 2024 (10/10)

Size and location of the apartment where perfect for a family. There was enough room for a longer stay and an office area to work, if required

What could be improved: Kitchen was not well equipped to be able to cook family meals

  • Wonderful and charming! – Bonnie from United States – 17 June 2023 (10/10)

I like that it had a code. I wish it provided two keys. When adults are traveling together sometimes one key is problematic because not everyone always wants to do the same thing.

The place itself is wonderful!! Clean, great beds, good kitchen, good amenities such as a good nspresso machine, iron and board, drying rack, washer/dryer, two bathrooms with great showers. Most importantly an excellent location in Petite France. Tons of cafes right out your door, the canal and boat ride and city center are close. Great stay.

What could be improved: Honestly we were shocked at how dirty and unappealing it was to get into the place. The back of the restaurant was smelly and disgusting and the stairs to get to the place were horrible. There was a really dirty ashtray that made me sick to look at. They really need to clean up the entry way because it makes it look like the place will be horrible. The quality of the place was exceptional though.

  • Lovely stay in the heart of Petite France. – Ilinca from Romania – 27 February 2023 (10/10)

It was pure pleasure: in the heart of Petite France in such a beautiful historic house, so nicely thought. We'd do it again anytime. We parked under the museum of Modern Art…a few minutes from there and: voila.

What could be improved: Couldn't find anything bad to say.

  • Awesome apartment in Strasbourg – Povey from France – 7 August 2023 (9/10)

    Well situated
    Well laid out apartment
    Well priced
All the amenities you could want.

What could be improved: The smell of garbage from the restaurant whenever you entered the apartment through the back of the restaurant.

  • fantastic property we had a great stay and explored Strasbourg in the sunshine – Nicola from United Kingdom – 26 July 2022 (9/10)

pretty much perfect for a short break – great location and brilliant space for the 4 of us. air con was a plus as it was hot outside but lovely and cool inside.

What could be improved: steps to access at the back are a little narrow and we couldn’t find the external rubbish bins

  • We stay in accommodation such as this regularly and found this experience wasn’t up to standard both – Roger from Australia – 2 June 2024 (2/10)

Size of apartment and location of the building with in the old town. Separation of sleeping areas

What could be improved: Cleanliness and state of appliances not working several appliances not working. Constant smell of restaurant cooking and sewerage was unpleasant. Communication with Cotoon not ideal.

  • Very good – Fan from China – 2 May 2025 (8/10)

    What could be improved:

What could be improved: l’entrée de l’appartement
