Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from Le Gutenberg when I first walked down Rue des Grandes Arcades – the name made it sound like some stuffy literary-themed place, you know? But this T2 apartment turned out to be exactly what Strasbourg’s Carré d’Or neighborhood is all about: that perfect mix of old-world charm and modern comfort that actually works. The location is pretty incredible, I mean, you’re literally in the heart of the shopping district but tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with constant street noise. The apartment itself feels more like staying at a well-traveled friend’s place than a typical hotel – there’s character in the details, from the way the morning light hits the windows to the solid feel of everything (you can tell someone actually cares about this place rather than just churning through guests).

What really got me was how the space manages to feel both cozy and surprisingly spacious. The layout flows naturally – none of that awkward hotel furniture arrangement where you’re constantly bumping into things. The kitchen is actually functional, which is rare for city center accommodations, and honestly perfect for grabbing fresh pastries from the boulangerie around the corner or picking up ingredients from the Saturday market at Place du Marché aux Poissons (just a few minutes’ walk). Speaking of walking, everything you’d want to see is right there – the cathedral’s basically your neighbor, and you can wander through Petite France without dealing with any of the tourist bus chaos. I loved that you could slip out in the evening when the crowds thin out and have those postcard-perfect canals almost to yourself.

The whole experience just feels more… authentic, I guess? Like you’re actually staying in Strasbourg rather than some generic European city hotel that could be anywhere. The 8.9 rating makes total sense when you factor in that you’re getting genuine local living in one of the most sought-after neighborhoods – the Carré d’Or isn’t called the “Golden Square” for nothing. Sure, it’s not the cheapest option, but when you consider the location (seriously, you can’t get more central), the space, and that homey feeling that’s impossible to fake, it’s actually solid value. Plus, there’s something to be said for having your own key to a real Strasbourg apartment rather than checking in and out of some lobby. Just keep in mind that like most historic city centers, parking can be a bit of a puzzle, so maybe plan to explore on foot – which honestly is the best way to experience this part of the city anyway.

  The apartment was very central with all the Christmas markets and activities while we were there. Everything was within walking distance and we had a great stay. It was warm and comfortable.

  Having coffee provided, dish pods, and laundry pods was great. Location was 10/10 and very quiet. The view of the cathedral was a fun surprise!
  
  What could be improved: I wasn’t accustomed to having to pick up and drop off keys elsewhere and take out trash. The key pick up/drop off is not particularly convenient when carrying luggage through Christmas market traffic. The refrigerator smelled badly although it was empty when we arrived.

  The apartment is located in the historic center of Strasbourg, close to the cathedral. The kitchen and bathroom have been updated, but there is virtually no decor, making the apartment starkly utilitarian. We didn't mind climbing the three flights of stairs to the apartment. It is a nice apartment — provided everything is working as promised. Additionally, the cleaning crew left an unsightly mess of equipment in the kitchen/living area.
  
  What could be improved: The problem with a corporation-managed apartment is the lack of local accountability. We encountered a problem upon entering the apartment and immediately emailed. A local employee was unable to solve the problem and promised someone would get back to us the next day. No one ever did and the problem was never resolved during our stay. Had this been a smaller, local company perhaps they could have done something. With this being a huge corporation, managing rentals in sixteen cities, the local staff has limited or no autonomy.

  Çok merkezde, temiz, kullanışlı bir daire idi. Eşim ve 17 yaşındaki oğlumla rahatça konakladık. Dairenin civarında ihtiyaç duyulabilecek her şey vardı. Mutfak malzemelerini kullanma ihtiyacımız pek olmadı ancak ihtiyaç duyacak olanlar için her şey düşünülmüştü. Biz çok memnun kaldık. Tek sorun park yeri olmaması ama o da zaten açıkça belirtildiği için alternatifleri kendimiz araştırdık.
  
  What could be improved: Çıkışta anahtarı bırakacağımız kutu arızalıydı. booking üzerinden mesaj attım, çok kısa bir süre sonra birisi gelip teslim aldı. Mesajıma yanıt dönmedikleri için teslim alan kişiye ne kadar güvenebileceğime emin olamadım ancak sonrasında bir sorun yaşanması.
