Hotel Description

You know what? Le Cocon surprised me – and I mean that in the best way possible. The name translates to “cocoon” which honestly felt a bit precious at first, but after staying there, it actually makes sense. This little three-star spot sits right on Rue du Bastion, tucked away on the first floor of what looks like a typical Strasbourg building, but step inside and there’s this immediate sense of… well, being wrapped up somewhere safe and comfortable.

The location is genuinely perfect if you ask me. Five minutes to the center sounds like travel website fluff, but I timed it – four and a half minutes walking at a normal pace gets you to Place Kléber, and you’re basically breathing distance from the cathedral after that. What I really loved though was how quiet it stays despite being so central. Rue du Bastion isn’t one of those tourist thoroughfares, so you’re not dealing with drunk groups stumbling past your window at 2 AM (trust me, I’ve made that mistake in other Strasbourg hotels). The garage situation is clutch too – parking in Strasbourg’s old town is an absolute nightmare, especially during Christmas market season, so having a guaranteed spot takes off so much stress.

The rooms themselves have this cozy, almost apartment-like feel that grows on you. Nothing flashy or Instagram-perfect, but everything works and feels thoughtfully chosen. The beds are actually comfortable – I’m picky about mattresses and slept well every night. My room faced the courtyard, which meant it was properly quiet but maybe a touch darker than I’d prefer during winter months. Check-in was smooth, though the stairs up to reception might be annoying if you’re hauling heavy luggage – something to keep in mind. The staff genuinely seemed to know the neighborhood; when I asked about a good bakery, the guy at the desk didn’t just point me toward the obvious tourist spots but recommended this tiny place two streets over that locals actually use. That kind of local knowledge makes a difference when you’re trying to experience a city beyond the guidebook highlights.

Honestly, the 7.8 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. I’d definitely stay again, especially because it manages to feel both connected to the city and removed from the tourist chaos. If you’re the type who wants to be in the thick of things but still have a peaceful place to retreat to, Le Cocon hits that sweet spot perfectly.

    Very well equipped with everything needed. Lots of room, large bathroom with tub. Close to tram line.

    cozy apartment, great location, nice and responsive host, onsite parking helps a lot.

    What could be improved: everything was ok, except that we ran out of hot water within 5 minutes. we didn't feel comfortable to contact the host about this at midnight and we didn't follow up because we stayed for one night only, but considering other comments about this issue isn't this worth fixing the problem once and forever?

    The location (in terms of accessibility to Zenith Arena and the city center) is pretty neat, the flat is quite cozy.
    The garage is also a bonus nice bonus. Overall check in / check out experience (the instructions provided by the host) is very good.

    What could be improved: The flat is falling apart. It's hard to close the door to the toilet or bathroom. In the shower you need to be extremely cautious, or the floor will be flooded, because there are wide gaps in the shower screen.
    The flat is very dirty, you can see very thick layers of dust on some surfaces (e.g. if you look at the stair lights from the top).
    Another unpleasant point, although minor – the street outside can be loud at night. I woke up from loud laughing from the companies that were passing by the window and the sound of motorcycle exhaust.

    Place was really comfortable, so clean and really close to the tram so you get into the centre easily. You can also notice that owners take care. they left some little welcome details for our family and the instructions and support was timely and clear. Very good choice!! Thanks!

    8 mn from the city center by Tram and a tram station a 2 mn from the location. interior is great, clear and nicely organized. All to stay is available. perfect WiFi.
