You know what? Le Cocon Alsacien totally lives up to its name – it really does feel like a cozy cocoon tucked away on this quiet little street in Strasbourg. I mean, Rue d’Austerlitz isn’t one of those main tourist drags, which honestly works in your favor because you’re not dealing with crowds of people wheeling suitcases over cobblestones at all hours. It’s maybe a seven-minute walk to Place Kléber, and you’ll pass this amazing little boulangerie on the way that locals actually use (not just tourists buying overpriced croissants).

The hotel itself has that authentic Alsatian thing going on – timber beams, warm colors, rooms that feel genuinely French rather than trying too hard to be “charming.” Actually, the breakfast room overlooks this tiny courtyard where you can hear church bells from Saint-Pierre-le-Vieux in the morning, which sounds romantic but isn’t obnoxiously loud if you’re trying to sleep in. The staff seems to actually live in Strasbourg, not just work there temporarily, so they’ll tell you stuff like which tram to take to avoid the construction near the cathedral (there’s always construction somewhere in this city). The rooms are… well, they’re proper hotel rooms, not huge but thoughtfully laid out. The bathroom situation is solid – good water pressure, which you can’t always count on in these older buildings.

Here’s the thing about this place – it sits in that sweet spot where it’s comfortable enough that you’re not roughing it, but it doesn’t have that sterile chain hotel vibe either. The 7.7 rating feels about right, honestly. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it won’t disappoint either. You’re basically paying for a good night’s sleep in a neighborhood where you can grab groceries at the Monoprix on Rue du 22 Novembre (locals know this one stays open later), or duck into one of those winstubs that tourists haven’t discovered yet. The front desk actually closes at night – I mean, there’s a night bell, but it’s not like having 24/7 concierge service. Some people might find that annoying, but I sort of liked the residential feel of it. Oh, and parking – there’s a public garage about two blocks away on Rue du Maire Kuss, which is way easier than trying to navigate those narrow streets with a rental car. Trust me on that one.

  What could be improved: Too many stairs. The toilet is in the first floor of the apartment and the sink and bathtub are on the second floor. It is also overpriced

  Very good location, close to the city centre. Clean bed linens.
  
  What could be improved: The flat had three floors of stairs to climb and we had heavy luggage so it would be good if you warn visitors about this before we book. The sofa was dirty and there not a cover to use. Also the kitchen oven was very dirty. In addition the place to collect the keys was ten minutes walking distance from the property, something that you also don’t warn the visitors about before the booking. The managing company was very inflexible regarding dropping our luggage earlier on the day of the arrival so we had to carry it all the way to a baggage storage facility. Overall not satisfied with the customer service and the state of the flat.

  Super séjour dans un logement très propre et avec toutes les commodités. Nous étions vraiment à côté de toutes les activités, du marché de noel. Le logement est au deuxième étage très calme et avec un billard.

  La ubicación es excelente y tiene muy buenas conexiones. El piso estaba muy limpio.
  
  What could be improved: Es un segundo piso sin ascensor, todo escaleras y cuando llegas al piso más escaleras para entrar (como si fuera un 3°).
  La recogida de llaves fatal. Íbamos muy cargados y con un carrito de niño… no pudimos recoger las llaves hasta las 15.00 y tuvimos que estar con el equipaje por la ciudad varias horas, una locura.
  El váter está en la planta baja y la ducha y lavabo en la planta de arriba, nada práctico. La ducha muy estrecha.
  Me ha parecido caro para lo que es y 5 días…
