Hotel Description
Okay, so Le Carré d’Or – honestly, the name sounds way fancier than you’d expect when you first walk down Rue des Échasses. It’s this narrow little street that feels totally residential until you realize you’re literally in the golden triangle of Strasbourg’s old town. I mean, you can see the cathedral spires from the terrace, which is sort of the whole point here.
The apartment itself is what I’d call “sophisticated European” without being stuffy about it. You know how some places try too hard to be boutique-y? This isn’t that. It’s more like staying in a well-traveled friend’s place – someone with good taste who actually lives there. The terrace is honestly the star of the show, especially if you snag it during late afternoon when the light hits the cathedral just right. I spent way too much time up there with morning coffee, watching the city wake up below. The street’s quiet enough that you’re not dealing with tourist crowds stumbling past at all hours, but you’re still a three-minute walk from Place Kléber when you want to be in the thick of things.
What really gets me about this spot is how it sits right in that sweet spot between the main tourist circuit and actual Strasbourg life. You’ve got the cathedral views (obviously), but you’re also close enough to those little wine bars along Rue des Tonneliers that locals actually frequent. The Petite France canals are an easy stroll, and – this is key if you’re driving – there’s decent parking nearby, which is basically a miracle in this part of town. The 4-star rating feels right; it’s polished and comfortable without being corporate hotel bland. Check-in was smooth, the wifi actually works (tested extensively), and the kitchen has everything you need if you hit up the Saturday market at Place du Marché aux Poissons.
The 9.1 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there a day or two. It’s those little details that add up – good water pressure, blackout curtains that actually block light, a coffee setup that doesn’t make you want to immediately find the nearest café. Plus, and I can’t stress this enough, that cathedral view from your own private terrace never gets old. Whether you’re planning a romantic weekend or just want a proper base for exploring Alsace, this place delivers on what it promises without any of the usual vacation rental surprises.

Wonderful apartment in the middle of the old part of Strasbourg. – Jimmy from Denmark – 29 July 2024 (10/10)
Wonderful, bright and clean apartment in the middle of the old part of Strasbourg. The apartment is situated in a side street to a pedestrian street, and all the windows faces a yard – so it is very quiet. The kitchen is well equiped, and the furnishing are beautiful. The landlady is really friendly, helpful and warm-hearted. We will definitely return!
