Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about L’austerlitz? It’s this perfectly sized T2 apartment right on Place d’Austerlitz that somehow manages to feel both thoroughly local and completely comfortable for travelers. I mean, when you’re staying right in the heart of Strasbourg’s city center, you expect some trade-offs – maybe street noise or cramped quarters – but honestly, this place gets the balance just right.

The location is actually pretty brilliant if you know Strasbourg at all. Place d’Austerlitz isn’t one of those touristy squares that’s all restaurants with English menus and overpriced everything. It’s where locals actually hang out, and you’re literally a five-minute walk from the cathedral without being in the thick of all that tourist chaos. I loved stepping out in the morning and grabbing coffee from the little café across the square – you’ll hear more French and Alsatian than English, which honestly makes you feel like you’re experiencing the real city. The tram stops right nearby too (which is huge because Strasbourg’s tram system is fantastic), and if you’re driving, well… parking in Strasbourg is always interesting, but the host actually provides decent guidance on where to leave your car.

What really sets this apart from your typical hotel room is that it feels like staying in someone’s actual home – because essentially, you are. The T2 setup gives you proper space to spread out, and I mean real space, not that “spacious” nonsense hotels always claim. There’s a proper kitchen if you want to hit the morning markets (and trust me, the local markets here are incredible), plus you can actually unpack and settle in rather than living out of a suitcase. The 9.4 rating makes total sense once you’re there – everything just works smoothly, from check-in to the little touches that show someone actually cares about the guest experience. The windows face the square, so you get this lovely view of daily Strasbourg life, though if you’re a super light sleeper, just know that French city squares do have their evening social scene. But honestly, it’s more charming than disruptive – you fall asleep to the sound of people enjoying themselves, not traffic or sirens.

The whole experience feels authentic in a way that’s getting harder to find. You’re not staying in some sanitized hotel bubble; you’re actually living in Strasbourg for a few days. And at four stars with that kind of rating, you know you’re getting quality without the stuffiness that sometimes comes with fancier places. If you’re the type who wants to explore Petite France in the morning, pop back for an afternoon break, then head out for evening drinks in a neighborhood locals actually frequent, this spot just makes sense.

  • Big, bright, and perfect. – Paul from Australia – 14 January 2025 (10/10)

Fantastic location, wonderful layout, excellent fittings and fixtures. The hosts were excellent communicators and very helpful. A Christmas tree was even set up to make our stay more comfortable. Access was easy.

  • Lovely apartment, highly recommend! – Donald from United States – 11 January 2025 (10/10)

This apartment was such a lovely, perfect place to stay! Not only is it in an exceptional location, but there were so many beautiful touches that added additional charm to this great place! We were in town to visit the Christmas market & it was very close to everything we wanted to see. And also located on a very pretty square! The host was also very thoughtful.

What could be improved: Nothing, we loved our stay!

  • Excelent – Solange from Argentina – 31 December 2024 (10/10)

Location, close to the historical center, with lots of restaurants nearby; comfortable apartment.

  • A great apartment in a great location. If we return to Strasbourg we would definitely try to rebook – Christopher from United Kingdom – 13 December 2024 (9/10)

The comfort level of the apartment was very high. Whilst Strasbourg was cold, the apartment itself was warm and homely. The very nice touch though was the Xmas tree in the corner. All of the facilities including kitchen utensils, plates, etc were first class.

What could be improved: Children in the apartment next door were very noisy during the afternoons but other than that, everything was excellent.

  • Would recommend, especially for midweek stays. Weekends too if you don't mind a bit of noise. – Steve from Australia – 12 December 2024 (9/10)

The location overlooking the square was perfect. Trams within one minute's walk, a well stocked supermarket just around the corner, and canal tour boats operating from a few minutes walk.

What could be improved: For the price, it's hard to find anything to complain about. Weekends may be a bit lively for some.

  • Strasbourg- full of fascinating nooks and crannies. – Kim from Australia – 31 October 2024 (9/10)

Very welcoming. Great location. We happily settled in very quickly.

  • We loved our visit to Strasbourg and this accommodation was perfectly situated for enjoying the sights and good food. – Esther from Australia – 13 July 2024 (9/10)

Brilliant location! Spacious apartment with lovely updated kitchen and bathroom. We also loved the balcony – a great place to sit, relax and watch the world go by. Having a lift in the building was an absolute bonus as we had heavy luggage.

What could be improved: It was hot and humid during our stay and whilst the fans that were provided helped a little, we were uncomfortable at night. Air conditioning would be a wonderful addition.

  • Fabulous shower dishwasher washing machine very modern fresh and clean cooking facilities great location with plenty of – Elizabeth from New Zealand – 26 May 2024 (10/10)

Amazing apartment with a nice balcony looking over square

  • Excellent room with nightmare neighbor – Titima from Germany – 25 January 2024 (8/10)

The property is clean, spaciuos, well organized and designed. The apartment is located very next to the old town of Strassbourg, which was very convenient.
There are bars and restaurants around the property.

What could be improved: 1) We were traveling in a family, so 2 persons slept in the bedroom and 2 persons in the living room (couch sofa).
The couch sofa was comfortable but very loud. Every single movement will create noise: when you flip, when you get on the couch, when you get pff the couch.
It was really annoying, so the next day, we decided to put the matress on the floor and slept there without expanding the couch. It was comfortable and we slept well. If you are going to stay here, i suggest you can do the same.

    2) the neighbor with small kids were nightmare. The neighbor family (opposite door) where just shouting to each other. The kids were screaming, making loud noise the whole night. Both 2 nights we stayed that, the kids only went to bed after 2:30 AM. We found it really restless hearing their noises all the time. If there is something negative, it would be it. But for this, it is not the fault of the property rather the fault of the parents who cannot teach their kids to behave.
