Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about La Cour des Cordonniers? The name actually makes sense when you’re standing there – it’s tucked into this narrow cobblestone street where leather workers used to set up shop centuries ago, and honestly, you can still feel that old-world craftsmanship vibe in the building itself. The location is sort of perfect if you ask me – you’re literally a three-minute walk from the cathedral (and I mean literally, I timed it), but far enough down Rue des Cordonniers that you’re not dealing with the constant stream of tour groups that cluster around the main squares. It’s this sweet spot where you get all the medieval charm without feeling like you’re staying inside a tourist attraction.

The hotel itself has that comfortable, unpretentious feel that I really appreciate in a 3-star place. Look, it’s not trying to be the Four Seasons, and that’s exactly why it works. The rooms have character – some of those ceiling beams that make you duck slightly if you’re tall, windows that actually open (rare these days), and beds that are genuinely comfortable, not just Instagram-pretty. What I loved is how quiet it gets at night, even though you’re right in the heart of things. Rue des Cordonniers doesn’t get much through traffic, so you’ll hear the occasional late-night reveler, but it’s more charming than annoying. The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood – when I asked about where to grab coffee that wasn’t overpriced tourist stuff, the guy at reception directed me to this tiny place on Rue du Maroquin that locals actually use.

Here’s the thing about staying here – you’re positioned perfectly for exploring both sides of Strasbourg’s personality. Petite France is right there when you want those postcard-worthy half-timbered houses and canal views, but you can also slip into the more workaday parts of the city center where people actually live and work. I spent one morning just wandering the side streets around the hotel with my coffee, and it felt more like being a temporary resident than a tourist checking boxes. The 8.1 rating makes sense to me – it’s the kind of place that delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. The shower pressure is decent, the WiFi works, and check-in was smooth even when I showed up earlier than expected on a busy Saturday. Is it fancy? No. Is it the kind of place you’d genuinely recommend to a friend who wants to experience Strasbourg without breaking the bank or staying somewhere soulless? Absolutely.

Visitors often choose Strasbourg apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent European capital.

    It was very comfortable

What could be improved: Tricky entry

  • Awesome location in town! – Trivia from United States – 18 April 2023 (9/10)

    Super location!

What could be improved: I couldn't find washing machine detergent. I bought some and it was difficult to add to the tray with the furniture around the machines.

  • Great location, comfortable space – Marcella from United Kingdom – 16 August 2022 (8/10)

    location

What could be improved: noise from upstairs neighbour at 3am

  • Christmas Markets on our doorstep – Barbara from Australia – 4 January 2025 (8/10)

The location was perfect. We were so close the Christmas markets, the tram stop, restaurants and shopping. Literally right on the doorstep! The owner provided lots of "extras" such as toiletries above and beyond the usual. Any questions I had were quickly answered.

What could be improved: The bed was a bit saggy and wedged against walls made getting in and out difficult. And I'm not as young as I used to be

  • Very good – Eszter from Hungary – 23 November 2023 (8/10)

The exceptional location, smooth communication with the host, the great bathroom and the plenty of small gestures of attention by the host (like soap, shampoo in the bathroom, cheese, ham, beer in the fridge), information shared with recommendations about what to visit, etc.

What could be improved: The appartment is missing a comfortable sofa or armchair.

  • Very good – Hang from Italy – 28 September 2022 (8/10)

    not totally clean but acceptable

What could be improved: the behavior of the hote not very nice for instruction, the bed is too small for 2 persons.

  • Great location, nice flat, mattress can be improved – Martine from Belgium – 14 July 2025 (7/10)

    Flexible check-in, easy key pick-up
    Ideal location
Quiet (if you leave the windows closed)
Everything is at hand for a short stay

What could be improved: I got a bad back ache during my stay and suspect the mattress was part of the cause. It wasn't very comfortable for me alone and suspect it would be quite uncomfortable for two.
The toilet door squeaks and needs a bit of oil
