Hotel Description

You know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of chain hotels, and honestly, the ibis Strasbourg Centre Gare surprised me in the best way possible. Sure, it’s right there at Place de la Gare – literally couldn’t be closer to the train station if they tried – but here’s the thing everyone gets wrong about station hotels: they assume they’re all noise and chaos. This one actually faces away from the main platform buzz, so you’re not dealing with that constant rumble of trains at 6 AM.

The lobby has this unexpectedly cozy vibe, nothing fancy but warm lighting and these deep red accents that feel more boutique than budget chain. Check-in was quick (I mean, it’s ibis, they’ve got this down to a science), and the staff actually knew their stuff about Strasbourg. The woman at reception told me about this little shortcut through Rue du Maire Kuss that gets you to the cathedral area in about twelve minutes – saved me from the tourist crowds on the main drag. The rooms are classic ibis style: compact but smartly designed, with that signature bed that’s honestly better than it has any right to be for the price point. What I really appreciated was the soundproofing – you’d think being this close to Gare Centrale would mean constant noise, but I slept through the night without issues.

Here’s what makes this place work though: location without the location penalty. You’re literally two minutes from hopping on a tram to Petite France (take line A toward Illkirch), but you’re also walking distance to some genuinely good local spots that most tourists miss. There’s this Alsatian place called Maison Kammerzell that’s touristy, sure, but locals still eat there for a reason – it’s maybe a fifteen-minute stroll through the old town. And if you need groceries or pharmacy stuff, the Monoprix on Rue des Grandes Arcades is right there. The breakfast isn’t going to blow your mind, but it’s solid – proper coffee, local pastries, and they do this thing with regional jams that’s actually pretty thoughtful. I stayed here in late September when the city was packed with tourists, and while the hotel was busy, it never felt chaotic or overwhelmed like some places do during peak season. The 8.1 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, just doing the fundamentals really well at a fair price point in a spot that actually makes your Strasbourg trip easier.

Reviews

  • Good location, great breakfast, easy parking room sparse and overdue for upkeep. We had a top floor room torwards the ce – Bastian from Denmark – 12 July 2025 (7/10)

The breakfast was great, and so was the staff

What could be improved: Our bed was so worn the mattress was literally taped…

  • Very good – Samantha from Sweden – 4 July 2025 (8/10)

The location is fantastic, and the room was very clean and comfortable for the whole family. The children slept on a sofa bed, which they said was quite comfortable. Despite being right in the city center, directly across from the train station, the room was quiet. The area overall was good, although, being so central, there were quite a few homeless people outside the hotel at night.

What could be improved: The air conditioning didn’t work very well the first night — the room stayed at 25°C (77°F), which felt too hot for us, especially with the heat outside, so we didn’t sleep very well. Fortunately, it worked better the second night and the room was cooler. Also, there aren’t many good dining options near the hotel after 9 p.m., which was a bit inconvenient.

  • Lovely hotel and staff. – Crystal from United Kingdom – 4 July 2025 (8/10)

Staff were all really helpful and friendly. Couldn’t have asked for more from them. Location is perfect, directly opposite train station. Breakfast was lovely. The hotel was very clean. There is water available where you can get a glass or refill your bottle which was really helpful.

What could be improved: The only thing we didn’t like and unfortunately for us was a big thing due to going on an extremely hot week was the air conditioning was barely noticeable. It only went 8 degrees lower than the temperature and at 37 degrees the rooms were very stuffy and uncomfortable. I’m sure on other weeks this wouldn’t be as much of a problem. Would definitely come back but more May time. A small fridge would be good too.

  • Very good – Toppazzini from Canada – 16 June 2025 (8/10)

The shower was awesome , the bed so comfy

What could be improved: Staff were not friendly at check in, no smiles. Did not feel welcomed. Night staff was good. Only BBC for english channel on TV.

  • Keep up the good job – Patrick from France – 8 June 2025 (9/10)

    The staff courtesy

    What could be improved: RAS

  • Great place and attention. Minor details. – Alejandro from Belgium – 25 April 2025 (9/10)

Right in front of the train station. Many restaurants and bars around. Very safe zone. I was able to eat a very good pizza and wine at the hotel very late at night 1130pm while all the restaurants were closed at that time. Also you could have a drink or coffee. The cost was fairly good. I did not have breakfast there.

What could be improved: We use 1 towel for the face and another for shower, but there were only one for shower. We had to go to reception for asking two more towels. But the cleaning lady only left again two at the following day. There were not enough hangers on the bathroom for clothing. Also we found a sock on the floor that was not ours.

  • Superb – Petra from Australia – 24 April 2025 (9/10)

Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Room good size, beautiful view of the cathedral.

What could be improved: No bar fridge or coffee making facilities in room. Glutenfree options (tiny bread roll heated in plastic) were so-so.

  • Convenient location and excellent breakfast. – Gary from United Kingdom – 24 March 2025 (9/10)

The breakfast was excellent. The location being close to the station was great as we were travelling by train. We also had a great view of the station from our room.

What could be improved: The top of the toilet bowl would benefit from deep cleaning, and the towels could have been better, but overall we’ve no complaints.

  • Clean and nice but way overpriced. – Mickey from Israel – 15 March 2025 (7/10)

    Clean, central location, good breakfast

What could be improved: No amenities in the room, at all. Not even tissues or hand towels. And price was way too expensive for what you got in return.

  • Delightful stay: modern comfort, tasty breakfast, prime location. – Arash from United Arab Emirates – 22 February 2025 (8/10)

I particularly appreciated the room's modern decor and immaculate cleanliness, which created a comfortable retreat after a day of exploring. The breakfast was a delight, offering a diverse range of fresh and tasty options to start the day right. Additionally, the location was superb—conveniently situated near key attractions and local dining spots, making it easy to experience the best of the area.

What could be improved: While my stay was overall enjoyable, there were a few areas that could be improved. The room, although comfortable and well-maintained, sometimes felt a bit cramped, limiting space for relaxation. Additionally, service during peak hours was occasionally slower than expected, and while the breakfast was delightful, its variety could be expanded to better suit diverse dietary preferences.
