Hotel Description

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Hôtel Restaurant Athena Spa on Rue Armande Béjart – it’s tucked away in this quiet residential corner of Strasbourg that most tourists never stumble across. But you know what? That turned out to be exactly what made it special. The building itself has that understated French elegance thing going on, and when you walk through the entrance, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually cares about the details here.

The location is sort of brilliant if you think about it. You’re far enough from the tourist chaos around the cathedral and Petite France that you can actually sleep at night (trust me, this matters in Strasbourg during summer), but it’s still only a fifteen-minute walk to Place Kléber if you want to dive into the action. I mean, you could take the tram from nearby, but honestly the walk through the residential streets gives you a better feel for how locals actually live here. The staff seems genuinely proud of their neighborhood too – they’ll point you toward this little bakery around the corner that does incredible kougelhopf, or tell you which direction to head for the best morning run along the Ill river.

What really got me was how the spa element isn’t just some afterthought marketing gimmick. After spending a day tramping around cobblestones (and let’s be real, Strasbourg has a lot of cobblestones), having access to proper relaxation facilities actually makes a difference. The restaurant surprised me too – I was prepared for typical hotel food, but they’re clearly taking advantage of being in Alsace. The wine selection leans heavily local, which I appreciated, and the kitchen knows what to do with all those German-French fusion flavors that make this region’s food so interesting. Check-in was smooth, parking was easier than I expected for this part of the city, and the rooms hit that sweet spot of being comfortable without trying too hard to impress. You can tell this is the kind of place that gets a lot of repeat visitors – there’s a lived-in confidence to how everything operates that you only get when people actually know what they’re doing.

  • Superb – Fiona from United Kingdom – 13 July 2025 (9/10)

Spacious, clean room. Friendly, helpful staff. Nice breakfast although quite expensive. Bit of a way out of the city centre – half an hour walk, 15 mins by bus/tram.

  • Superb – Galis from United States – 3 July 2025 (9/10)

Great amenities, parking and comfortable modern rooms.

What could be improved: We arrived on a Sunday so limited restaurant options provided by the hotel although they had a limited menu which was fine. Minor inconvenience if planning on eating at outside hotel restaurant.

  • Excellent – G from United Kingdom – 2 July 2025 (9/10)

The room was well appointed and spotlessly clean. The bed was comfortable. The restaurant had an outside terrace where we sat for dinner and I had my favourite meal of our whole three week stay here. I had poisson du jour, cooked to perfection, followed by a sublime Paris-Brest. The wine was excellent.
To get to the city you can either drive from the car park which is adjacent the hotel, or you can catch a tram. We took an Uber which was about €12 Into the city because the tram was cancelled due to road works and it was too hot to get the bus.
    I would recommend this hotel.

What could be improved: No marmalade at breakfast, but that’s just me. It’s true of most hotels I stayed at. The coffee and breakfast in general was excellent. So, overall, nothing
