Hotel Description

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to Hôtel Régent Contades – it sits on this busy avenue that feels more business district than charming Alsatian getaway. But you know what? Sometimes the best places hide in plain sight. The moment you step through those doors, there’s this immediate shift from urban hustle to something much more refined, almost like entering someone’s elegant townhouse rather than a typical hotel lobby.

What really won me over was how the staff actually seemed to know Strasbourg inside and out. I mean, most hotel concierges can point you toward the cathedral, but the woman at reception casually mentioned that if I walked down toward Place Kléber around 6 PM, I’d catch the street musicians who set up near the old department store – and she was absolutely right. The rooms themselves feel properly French without being stuffy about it. Mine overlooked the avenue (which I was initially worried about noise-wise), but the windows are solid and I actually enjoyed watching the trams glide by in the morning. The bathroom was one of those surprisingly spacious ones you don’t expect in European city hotels, with decent water pressure and toiletries that didn’t smell like industrial soap.

Location-wise, you’re about a fifteen-minute walk to the old town – close enough that you’re not dealing with tourist crowds right outside your door, but far enough that you feel like you’re staying where actual Strasbourgeois live and work. There’s a fantastic little bakery called Maison Georges just two blocks down on rue de la Mésange where locals queue up for their morning pastries, and honestly, their pain aux raisins beat anything I found in the more touristy spots near the cathedral. The hotel doesn’t have its own restaurant, which initially seemed like a drawback, but it forced me to explore the neighborhood – and that’s where I discovered some genuine gems. Parking can be a bit tricky (welcome to Strasbourg), but they’ve got arrangements with a nearby garage, and the front desk staff were refreshingly upfront about the costs rather than springing surprises at checkout. With an 8.6 rating, I’d say that’s pretty spot-on – it’s not going to blow your mind with flashy amenities, but everything works exactly as it should, the service feels genuinely helpful rather than scripted, and you’ll end up with stories about the real Strasbourg instead of just the postcard version.

Reviews

  • A great stay in Strasbourg – Marc from Netherlands – 23 July 2025 (8/10)

Great hotel in an even more beautiful city. Comfortable room.

What could be improved: Parking. We were lucky on a bank holiday, otherwise we would have had troubles.

  • Superb – Richard from Switzerland – 13 July 2025 (9/10)

The location was excellent, at one edge of the old part of town. It's within good walking distance of the old part of Strasbourg, and is located close to the river. Staff was friendly. We took breakfast outside so I can't rate the quality

What could be improved: Parking is expensive, and if you are a foreigner meandering in France with a car, you need a "sustainability certificate" that classifies your car: get it early online. Shower in the room was little more than a dribble (which an inexperienced employee tried to turn into a feature by saying the city mandated such things to save water…mmm).

  • Excellent value for money – Bart from Belgium – 13 July 2025 (9/10)

    Location – staff – room

    What could be improved: –

  • excelent enjoye every moment – Marc from France – 27 June 2025 (10/10)

room was large bed very confirtable as well bathroom . open fridge enjoye the atmosphere of the room. finaly close to all the location I needed to go andnice run along the river

What could be improved: maybe a bit complicated to found my room bit I feel it is part of the atmosphere of this hotel.

  • Excellent hotel experience to celebrate a special birthday and discover Strasbourg. – Philip from France – 17 June 2025 (9/10)

Large balcony, location, breakfast, linen and towel change, room cleanliness, communication (advance info), useful and helpful advice at reception, flowers in room, sauna.

What could be improved: Breakfast and staff were good but the atmosphere could have been improved with a little quiet music.
Overhead shower head was very weak, so much as to be unusable.

  • Great nights sleep in quiet surroundings, right next to Strasbourg old town – Cathy from United Kingdom – 16 June 2025 (9/10)

Beautiful traditional building and features. Fabulous sheets and bedding.

What could be improved: The shower head needed improvement

  • We had an amazing stay. We will definitely be back! – Sarah from Switzerland – 15 June 2025 (10/10)

Very clean. Super location! Comfortable bed.

  • Very good – Julia from Belgium – 8 June 2025 (8/10)

Big and very comfortable rooms. Friendly and helpful staff. Good room service!

  • Pricey for what you het – Ken from Austria – 7 June 2025 (8/10)

    Very friendly staff, very accommodating!

What could be improved: The hotel's best days seem to be behind it, the paint is peeling, my room smelled a bit of damp, the carpets are worn, the place just doesn't look in top shape. A shame, really, because staff were sooo friendly and helpful. Plus my room was tiiiiny. Not at all worth the over €200/night.

  • Classic hotel well located – Ed from United States – 30 May 2025 (10/10)

Just a short walk to the Old Town area.

    What could be improved: Nothing
