Hotel Description
Honestly, when I first walked into Hôtel Le Rohan, I wasn’t expecting much from the narrow entrance on rue du Maroquin – it’s this quiet little street that most tourists completely miss, tucked between the cathedral quarter’s main drags. But you know what? That’s exactly what makes this place special. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Strasbourg Cathedral (I mean, you can hear the bells from some rooms), but you’re not dealing with the crowds and street noise that come with staying right on the main squares.
The building itself has this lovely old-world feel – thick walls that actually keep things quiet, which is rare in city center hotels. I particularly loved the way they’ve kept the original architectural details but haven’t gone overboard trying to make everything look ancient. The rooms are what I’d call “properly comfortable” – not huge by American standards, but well thought out with decent storage and bathrooms that actually have counter space. The staff genuinely knows the area too, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how often hotel people can’t tell you where to find a good bakery or which tram line gets you to Petite France fastest. They pointed me toward this little wine bar on rue des Tonneliers that I never would have found otherwise.
What really sold me on the place was the location’s sweet spot factor. You’re close enough to everything that matters – the cathedral, obviously, but also easy walking distance to the covered bridges and all those half-timbered houses everyone comes to see. But here’s the thing locals know: rue du Maroquin is just far enough off the tourist trail that you can actually breathe. No crowds of people with selfie sticks right outside your window at 7 AM. The street has this nice mix of regular Strasbourg life – there’s a small café where you’ll hear more French than English, and the whole area settles down nicely in the evenings. I stayed during spring when the city gets busy with visitors, and I was honestly surprised how peaceful it felt coming back to the hotel after days of sightseeing. The 8.5 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be flashy or luxurious, but everything works the way it should, the location is genuinely smart, and you feel like you’re staying somewhere that understands what travelers actually need rather than what some corporate manual says they want.

What could be improved: The Hotel does have a very tiny lift, so if you have trouble with stairs, it may be a bit claustrophobic.Wonderful location, surprisingly quite and the staff were very attentive. – David from Australia – 23 June 2025 (10/10)

What could be improved: NothingStrasbourg – Richard from United States – 17 June 2025 (7/10)
Staff, location, and food were excellent.
What could be improved: The shower drain was backed up. Small flies flying around the shower and was probably related to the backed up drain. The elevator had issues, but I give them credit for trying to fix it when we were there. All-in-all they did a good job and the issues will pop up anywhere in time.Dying to go back already. – Tom from United Kingdom – 10 June 2025 (9/10)
Staff very friendly and helpful. Location superb.
What could be improved: More teas and coffee and water in room.Three days of a perfect stay in a lovely hotel in a beautiful city. – Ruth-maria from United States – 6 June 2025 (10/10)
I had stayed there before so I knew it was going to be good. In fact, it was better: the elevator was larger! the breakfast spread also was much larger with a wonderful variety of tasty options; the staff very competent and helpful, taking time out to find answers to my questions. Their suggestions for restaurants in the neighborhood turned out to be excellent – local delicacies and reasonable prices. About the beds and bathrooms: Americans tend to want everything larger in France, especially beds and bathrooms. I can always tell that a review complaining about small sizes was written by an American. Although I'm a size 14-16, the facilities were comfortable and definitely not cramped or too small for me. The price per night incl. breakfast is definitely competitive, especially considering the location, so close to the cathedral and at least four museums.
What could be improved: Unfortunately, the hotel did not have control over the weather but they made up for it by loaning me a gigantic umbrella in a major down pour at dinner time.Perfect location for visiting Strasbourg – Louise from United Kingdom – 20 May 2025 (9/10)
From the moment we arrived, the staff were friendly and welcoming. Our room was comfortable and the buffet breakfast excellent!
The hotel was right in the beautiful old part of the city, almost opposite the cathedral, but wasn’t too noisy.Relaxing stay in a great location – Barbara from United States – 17 May 2025 (10/10)
Clean, quiet, great location
