Hotel Description

You know what really struck me about Hotel Kaijoo when I first walked in? It’s got this cool, understated vibe that feels authentically Strasbourg without trying too hard. The building sits right on Rue du Jeu des Enfants – which literally means “children’s games street” if you’re wondering – and honestly, the location couldn’t be better. You’re maybe a seven-minute walk from the cathedral, but tucked away enough that you won’t hear tour groups chattering outside your window at 8 AM.

The HappyCulture brand has this thing where they try to capture local personality, and I mean, they actually pulled it off here. The lobby has these warm wood accents mixed with modern touches that somehow don’t feel generic (you know how hotel design can go wrong). My room was on the third floor – fair warning, some of the older buildings in this part of Strasbourg have those narrow European elevators, but it’s perfectly fine unless you’re hauling massive suitcases. The rooms are thoughtfully designed with good lighting for actually reading and decent-sized bathrooms, which honestly isn’t always a given in historic city centers. The bed was properly comfortable, and the AC worked well during that unexpected heat wave in late September.

What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the area. When I asked about dinner recommendations, they didn’t just hand me a generic flyer – they asked what I was in the mood for and pointed me toward this fantastic winstub on Rue des Tonneliers that I never would’ve found on my own. Parking can be a bit tricky in this neighborhood (like most of central Strasbourg), but there’s a public garage about two blocks away, and they’ll give you directions that actually make sense. The breakfast was solid – proper coffee, local pastries, and they had this Alsatian honey that was ridiculously good. I ended up buying a jar at the Saturday market on Place du Marché aux Poissons, which is just a pleasant stroll through the petite France area. The 8-point rating feels about right – it’s a genuinely nice place that gets the details right without any major surprises, good or bad.

  View from the balcony was mildly disappointing. However, it slipped my mind that people actually look for rooms with balconies to smoke, not for views.

  Very nice staff. Well equipped room with tea/coffee making facilities and a good breakfast. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Parking onsite at an extra charge but worth it. Would recommend and stay here again. Good central location.

  What could be improved: Was a bit challenging to find due to construction/blocked roads. Breakfast buffet was very busy and a lot of food was used up like coffee machine out milk, no more eggs, no more silverware, cups and glasses for juice etc. it took them about 45 minutes to re-stock. Rooms relatively small gor 3 people but no problem for a night. Very tight underground parking which can be a challenge when arriving with a big SUV. Do reserve a spot in advance as it is difficult to find parking.

  Great location, well decorated hotel and super friendly staff! I ran a race in Strasbourg and was offered to extend my check-out time to have a chance to shower after the competition.
