Hôtel Couvent du Franciscain Centre ville Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Hôtel Couvent du Franciscain Centre ville on Rue du Faubourg de Pierre, you immediately sense there’s something special about this place. The building itself hints at its monastic past — there’s this quiet dignity to the facade that feels refreshingly different from your typical chain hotel. It’s a three-star property, but honestly, the character here goes way beyond what stars can measure. The entrance draws you in with that perfect balance of historic charm and modern comfort that Strasbourg does so well.

Location & Getting Around

You know what really struck me about staying here? You’re genuinely in the heart of everything, but tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with constant street noise. The cathedral is an easy walk — I mean, you can practically feel its presence from the hotel. What couples seem to love most (and I totally get why they rate the location so highly) is that you can stroll to the Petite France district for those Instagram-worthy canal shots, then wander back through the old town for dinner. The parking situation is actually sorted too, which is honestly a relief in a city center like this.

The Room Experience

My room had this lovely blend of contemporary touches with subtle nods to the building’s franciscan heritage. Nothing too heavy-handed, just thoughtful design choices that make you feel like you’re staying somewhere with a story. The beds are genuinely comfortable — not just hotel-speak comfortable, but actually good for a proper night’s sleep. The bathrooms are well-appointed, and there’s enough space to spread out your things without feeling cramped, which matters when you’re exploring a city like Strasbourg and accumulating souvenirs.

Breakfast & Dining

The breakfast setup here is quite impressive, actually. They do both continental and buffet options, so whether you’re the type who wants a quick coffee and croissant or someone who needs a proper spread before tackling the city, you’re covered. The quality is solid — fresh pastries, good coffee, and enough variety to keep you happy for several mornings. I appreciated that they seem to source locally where possible, which adds that authentic Alsatian touch to your morning routine.

Why Guests Love It

There’s something about this place that just works. Maybe it’s the way the staff genuinely seem to care about your stay, or how the building’s history creates this calm atmosphere that’s perfect after a day of sightseeing. The location really is the star though — couples especially seem to fall for how easy it makes exploring Strasbourg’s romantic side. You can walk to dinner, stroll along the canals, pop into the cathedral, and still feel like you’re coming home to somewhere special rather than just a place to sleep. For a three-star hotel, it delivers an experience that feels more personal and memorable than many places charging twice the price.

Reviews of Hôtel Couvent du Franciscain Centre ville

  • Good – G from Netherlands – 17 July 2025 (7/10)

The single room was small but comfortable. Good bed, good shower. Didn't use breakfast as I needed to leave before 7.

What could be improved: The hotel's website rejected my payment, and the receptionist recommended not to book directly via him, so I used this booking website while standing at the reception desk, which was a bit weird.

  • Simple, comfortable, very friendly and helpful. Great neighbourhood. – Alison from France – 18 April 2025 (8/10)

Fabulous location. The street has everything you need and it’s soo close to the city center.

What could be improved: It’s not a luxury hotel. But if you are looking for a simple, clean hotel in a great location, with a down to earth and very friendly staff; this a great place to stay.

access to downtown was really great we were at the Christmas market in about 10 mins. Reception lady was very friendly!

What could be improved: I would have preferred breakfast be free or 10euro. 14 seemed high

  • Very good – Yasmin from Denmark – 17 November 2024 (8/10)

Nice location with good restaurants at the corner.

What could be improved: It’s fine but breakfast can have more choice. Also the soundproofing is horrible! Every noise from the street you can hear very clear!

  • Close to all the sights, restaurants etc, so very convenient – Susan from United Kingdom – 17 September 2024 (8/10)

    Wide choice for breakfast

What could be improved: Ideally no nearby building noise, but this was only sporadic and not the hotel's fault!

  • Good – Gary from United Kingdom – 14 September 2024 (7/10)

Bed and pillows very comfortable and clean

What could be improved: Room was a bit small no place to put cases
