Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about ClapClap Hôtel? The name makes it sound almost gimmicky, but honestly, this place has way more character than most three-star spots in Strasbourg. It’s tucked on rue du Faubourg National – and if you don’t know the area, that’s basically where the city starts getting interesting beyond all the tourist traps around the cathedral. I mean, you’re still close enough to walk to Petite France in about fifteen minutes, but you’re actually staying where locals hang out.

The whole setup is this hotel-restaurant-bar thing that somehow doesn’t feel chaotic or confused about what it wants to be. The bar downstairs gets pretty lively in the evenings (fair warning if you’re a super early sleeper), but it’s the good kind of busy – you can actually grab a proper drink and some decent food without feeling like you’re eating hotel lobby snacks. The staff there knows their wine, which shouldn’t surprise anyone in Alsace, but they’re not pretentious about it either. What really works is how the restaurant spills out onto the street during warmer months – you get that whole European café vibe without paying tourist prices. The rooms upstairs are honestly better than I expected for a three-star. Nothing fancy, but the beds are comfortable and everything feels recently updated. The bathrooms are small (this is France, after all), but the water pressure is solid and they’ve got those little touches that show someone cares – good soap, decent towels, outlets where you actually need them.

Location-wise, you’re in this sweet spot where you can walk to the tram if you need it, but you’re also right in the middle of some great neighborhood spots. There’s a fantastic boulangerie literally around the corner on rue de la Krutenau – I’m talking about the kind of croissants that make you understand why French people are so particular about their pastries. Parking can be a bit of a pain during the day, but honestly, that’s Strasbourg for you. The hotel doesn’t have its own lot, so you’ll be dealing with street parking or the public garage a few blocks away, but at least they’re upfront about it when you book. What I really appreciated was how the whole place feels authentically Strasbourgeois – not trying to be Parisian chic or faux-Bavarian, just comfortable and real. The rating of 8 out of 10 makes sense to me; it’s not going to blow your mind, but it delivers on what it promises and then some. If you want something with personality that doesn’t break the bank and puts you in a neighborhood where you can actually experience the city, ClapClap does the job really well.

Travelers should reserve a hotel in Strasbourg at least two months ahead of their visit to ensure availability and secure better rates, especially during the peak December season when the city hosts its world-famous Christmas celebrations.

  • Fun stay, professionally staffed & managed. – Donald from United States – 14 July 2025 (9/10)

The bar has a great vibe & good service.

What could be improved: The AC needed to be colder, and a fan to move the room air would help too.

  • Good location and clean – Vicky from Australia – 4 July 2025 (9/10)

Rooms were small but had all you needed.

What could be improved: No Netflix or YouTube available

  • Good location – Dharshanie from Australia – 4 July 2025 (8/10)

Location is very good, trams infront of the front, plenty of restaurants around and easy walk to Petite France.
We had a booking for three adults which was in two levels. It was during the heat wave in summer and the air conditioner did not reach down stairs bed room and the fan was not enough to provide comfortable level of temperature control. Taking the stairs to use the bathroom and to fiil water botes etc did not bother us, but will need to be clarified for anyone who has mobility issues when booking. Staff were friendly and helpful.

What could be improved: As written above, it was too hot.
We could not adjust the air conditioner to make it more efficient.

  • Buzzy Young feel to the place.nice vibe – Dan from United Kingdom – 1 July 2025 (8/10)

Right in the centre of things. All facilities were good. If planning to use the carpark, you tube it first as found this very stressful ( you have to drive over tram tracks and down a walk way).

  • Superb – Gary from United Kingdom – 28 June 2025 (9/10)

Great hotel close to the old part of Strasbourg and also close to the station. Friendly and efficient staff . Would stay again

What could be improved: The air con was struggling as the days we stayed the temperatures were high even at night but no other issues
