Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about Château de Pourtalès? I was expecting some stuffy castle experience, but this place actually feels like staying at your sophisticated French aunt’s country estate – if your aunt happened to have impeccable taste and a thing for history. It’s tucked away on Rue Mélanie in the Robertsau district, which honestly most tourists never venture to, and that’s exactly why it works so well.
The château itself dates back to the 19th century, and you can tell they’ve put real thought into preserving that character without making you feel like you’re sleeping in a museum. The rooms have this lovely mix of period details and modern comfort – I mean, you’ve got original moldings and parquet floors, but also a bathroom that actually functions properly (always a gamble with historic properties, let’s be honest). What really sold me was the park surrounding the place. It’s massive, probably 25 hectares of woods and gardens where you can actually get lost for a bit, which feels pretty miraculous when you’re technically still in Strasbourg. I spent way too much time just wandering around out there with my morning coffee, watching locals walk their dogs and jog past.
The location is sort of genius if you think about it – you’re about 15 minutes from the cathedral and Petite France by tram (the Robertsau-Boecklin stop is right there), but you get to come home to this peaceful bubble away from all the tourist chaos. Parking is free on-site, which anyone who’s tried to park in central Strasbourg will tell you is worth its weight in gold. The staff genuinely seems to care about the place, not just going through the motions – they’ll point you toward that little boulangerie on Rue Boecklin that locals actually use, or tell you which hiking trails in the nearby forest are worth your time. Honestly, for a 3-star property, the service feels more personal than plenty of fancier places I’ve stayed. Sure, it’s not going to have all the bells and whistles of a luxury hotel, but sometimes you just want a beautiful, quiet place to sleep well and feel like you’ve discovered something special. And that 9 rating? Yeah, I get it.
Hotels in Strasbourg offer guests the perfect blend of French elegance and Alsatian charm, with many featuring regional wine concierge services and traditional half-timbered architecture to enhance the authentic Franco-German cultural experience.

Very pleasant stay in a relaxing park near Strasbourg
+ Spacious rooms with high-quality beds
+ Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff
+ Cozy self-service bar with a welcoming atmosphere
+ Stunning location – the castle is absolutely magnificent
+ Great breakfast in a beautiful breakfast room
What could be improved: The only small remark: one of our rooms didn't have a roller blind in the bathroom, so quite a bit of light came in during the morning. For the rest everything perfect!Exceptional – Alena from Czech Republic – 15 July 2025 (10/10)
Amazing hotel, great location, very good breakfast. Even got small balcony in the room that I didn't noticed in the description, which was overlooking the greenery surrounding the place.
What could be improved: Only one small thing – doors into the bathroom (including toilet) were made from glass. Milky glass but still strange…Beautiful location in parklands – Andy from United Kingdom – 13 July 2025 (8/10)
Beautiful location and friendly staff. Wide range of facilities was available, although restaurant wasn't open.
What could be improved: Very low water pressure and saniflow toilet in adjacent room was located next to head of bed and therefore noisy when toile or shower used. Some areas not available due to corporate event.I loved this place. So memorable – Carol from Australia – 12 July 2025 (10/10)
