Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw the name “Charismatique Orangerie,” I wasn’t sure what to expect. The whole thing sounds a bit fancy for what’s essentially a 3-star place tucked into a residential building on Rue de Bruges. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones that don’t try too hard to impress you upfront.
The location is actually pretty brilliant if you know Strasbourg at all. You’re about a 10-minute walk from the European Parliament (hence the name, I guess), but more importantly, you’re in this quiet residential pocket that most tourists completely miss. Rue de Bruges runs parallel to some of the busier streets, so you get that authentic neighborhood feel without the constant tram noise. I mean, you’ll still hear the occasional car, but it’s nothing like staying near the cathedral area where tour groups start gathering at 8 AM. The apartment is on the first floor – which, remember, is what Americans would call the second floor – so there are stairs involved, but the building has that classic Alsatian charm with the heavy wooden doors and narrow hallways that smell faintly of old wood and someone’s morning coffee.
What I really appreciated was how the place felt lived-in rather than sterile. The orangerie theme isn’t just marketing nonsense – there are actually thoughtful touches with citrus colors and botanical prints that make sense together. The WiFi works reliably (I was working remotely for part of my stay), and honestly, that’s not always a given in these older Strasbourg buildings with their thick walls. The TV has enough channels to catch the news, though let’s be real, you’re not coming to Strasbourg to watch television. What struck me most was the attention to practical details – good lighting for reading, enough outlets near the bed, a decent shower with actual water pressure. These might sound like small things, but they’re the difference between a place you’d recommend and one you’d forget about.
The 7.5 rating feels about right – it’s not luxury, but it’s thoughtfully done and genuinely comfortable. You’re a easy walk from Place Kléber for shopping, close enough to Petite France for those canal photos everyone takes, but tucked away enough that you feel like you’re actually staying in a neighborhood rather than a tourist zone. If you’re the type who wants to grab fresh bread from the local boulangerie in the morning instead of fighting for croissants at a hotel buffet, this works perfectly. Just don’t expect a concierge or room service – this is more like borrowing a friend’s well-appointed apartment than staying at a traditional hotel, and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it work.

Place was newly updated with appliances and furniture. Very tastefully done and functional. Very close to an excellent Bakery (Boulangerie Keil) – a huge bonus! Place looked clean. Beds were comfortable. Definitely would stay there again.
What could be improved: Key box was blocked by parked bike – not the host's fault just logistics.
WiFi was not working – temporary issue that was revealed once on property.

The flat was well-appointed, and easy to access. Parking was easy to find on the road. I can't really comment on how well located it is, as we arrived late at night and left first thing in the morning.

What could be improved: Very noisy wooden floor, when one person gets up you can hear every step. The apartment needs renovation, especially the kitchen and the bathroom.
