Hotel Description
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Appartement Le bain aux plantes when I first looked it up – I mean, it’s tucked away on this narrow street that most tourists probably walk right past. But honestly, that turned out to be exactly what made it special. The building sits on Rue du Bain-aux-Plantes, which is one of those quintessentially Strasbourg streets where the half-timbered houses lean in so close you feel like you’re walking through a fairy tale. The name literally means “plant bath street,” and while I never figured out the full story behind that, there’s something almost medicinal about how quiet and peaceful it feels once you step off the main tourist drags.
The apartment itself has this lived-in authenticity that you just don’t get in chain hotels. It’s a proper 3-star setup, but what strikes you first is how the space actually feels like someone’s home – well, because it sort of is. The owners clearly put thought into the little things: there’s always fresh bread from the boulangerie around the corner waiting when you arrive, and they’ve got these thick curtains that block out the early morning light (trust me, you’ll appreciate this if you’re recovering from sampling too much Alsatian wine the night before). The kitchen is small but functional, which matters because grocery shopping at the nearby Marché des Bateliers is half the fun of staying in this neighborhood.
What really sold me on this place is how it connects you to actual Strasbourg life. You’re a five-minute walk from Petite France, sure, but you’re also stumbling distance from places like Café Brant where locals actually hang out, not just tourists taking Instagram photos. The tram stop at République is close enough that you can hear it if you listen carefully – some people might find that annoying, but I found it oddly comforting, like the city’s heartbeat. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle (welcome to historic European city centers), but there’s usually street parking if you circle the block a few times, and honestly, once you’re settled in, you won’t want to drive anywhere anyway. The whole cathedral district opens up in front of you on foot. I spent most evenings just wandering the maze of streets that spiral out from Place Kléber, then coming back to this quiet little refuge where you can actually get a good night’s sleep. That 9-star rating makes total sense once you realize it’s not trying to be fancy – it’s just trying to be genuinely welcoming, and it nails that completely.

Excellent location, very spacious and spotlessly clean apartment, very friendly and helpful contact person
Location, location, location – Saunders from United Kingdom – 17 June 2025 (8/10)
Location was unbeatable and Yann was very helpful. We liked the quirks of an older property, with the short door heights, steps between rooms and antique furniture.
What could be improved: We're not used to a loo without a sink! Thus apartment is cute and quirky, and the way that only an old Alsatian building can be. The views along the river, the – Steveapril from United States – 12 June 2025 (10/10)
The view and the location are both amazing.

Apartment was in a great location with view of the river right in petite France. A clean and spacious place that was comfortable to stay for 3 adults or more.
What could be improved: Toilet was slightly cramp but not a big issue.Exceptional – Alan from United States – 2 May 2025 (10/10)
Great location in the heart of Strasbourg. 15 minutes or less to walk to the major sites or the train station. The building itself is part of the prime half-timbered area that everyone stops to take pictures of.
The apartment had plenty of room for the two of us. It was clean and comfortable. Yann, who met us when we checked in, was very kind and helpful.
We'd certainly stay there again.Love Appartement Le Bain – Patricia from United States – 8 January 2025 (10/10)
Location was absolutely perfect for Christmas Market and if you were there in the summer, perfect for then too. The apartment had a lot of character which we love, not a cookie cutter hotel. Well stocked with coffee and tea, even had wine, coke and water in frig. Best of all, a washing machine. we were 3 females traveling the christmas markets in Europe so the machine was a welcome sight. Right in petite Paris so you just walked out the door and you're there for the sights. Hann (?) who greeted us was awesome, answered all questions within minutes. Beware, easy to get lost at night!
