Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about Appart Terrasse? It’s actually on the second floor of this charming building on Rue de Bergheim, and honestly, that turned out to be perfect. I mean, you’re right in the heart of Strasbourg but somehow removed from all the street-level tourist chaos – which, trust me, can get pretty intense around here, especially during the Christmas markets.
The terrace (obviously where the name comes from) is what really makes this place special. I’ve stayed in plenty of apartments in European city centers, and usually you’re lucky to get a tiny balcony overlooking a narrow alley. Here though, you’ve got this surprisingly spacious outdoor space where you can actually have your morning coffee without feeling like you’re on display for the entire neighborhood. The view isn’t going to win any postcards, but there’s something nice about seeing the real Strasbourg – locals heading to work, the occasional delivery truck rumbling down the cobblestones. It feels authentic, you know?
Location-wise, you’re about a ten-minute walk to the cathedral, which sounds far but actually isn’t when you factor in how packed those central streets get. Rue de Bergheim itself is quiet enough that I could sleep with the windows open (the apartment gets warm in summer, and the cross-breeze helps). There’s a little bakery literally around the corner that opens ridiculously early – I’m talking 6 AM – and their pain au chocolat became my daily ritual. The tram stop at Porte de l’Hôpital is maybe five minutes away, so getting around the city or out to the European Parliament area is pretty straightforward.
What I really appreciated was how thoughtfully set up everything was inside. The kitchen actually has proper knives and decent cookware – not those flimsy tourist apartment basics that barely cut butter. The shower has good pressure (miracle in these old buildings), and there are enough outlets that you don’t have to choose between charging your phone and using the coffee maker. Small things, but they matter when you’re staying somewhere for more than a night or two. The WiFi was solid too, which saved me since I had to jump on a few work calls.
Parking can be a bit of a puzzle if you’re driving – the streets around here are narrow and mostly resident-only. But honestly, once you’re settled in Strasbourg, you won’t need a car anyway. Everything worth seeing is walkable, and the public transport actually works. I’d say book this place if you want to feel like you’re living in Strasbourg rather than just visiting it. The 4-star rating feels right – it’s comfortable and well-maintained without being flashy. And that perfect 10 rating from other guests? Yeah, I get it. Sometimes you find a place that just works, and this is one of those spots.
