Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about the Writers? It’s actually tucked away on this quiet little street called Rue des Écrivains – which literally means “Writers’ Street” – and I mean, they really leaned into the theme without making it cheesy. The building itself has that classic Alsatian charm you see all over Strasbourg’s old quarters, but with this understated elegance that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something the tour groups haven’t found yet.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like a local. You’re maybe a seven-minute walk from the cathedral (I timed it because I’m weird like that), but you’re not dealing with the constant stream of tourists right outside your window. Place Kléber is close enough that you can grab coffee at one of those little cafés in the morning, and the tram stop on Rue du 22 Novembre is super convenient if you want to venture out to the European Parliament or something. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – Strasbourg isn’t exactly a party city, but even the usual city hum dies down on this street.

The rooms have this literary theme that could’ve gone terribly wrong, but they pulled it off with subtle nods rather than overwhelming you with book quotes on every wall. My room had these beautiful hardwood floors that creaked just enough to feel authentic (not annoying, more like character), and the windows – well, they actually open properly, which seems rare these days. The bathrooms are modern without being stark, and honestly, the water pressure was better than my apartment back home. I did notice the Wi-Fi was a bit spotty on the upper floors, but nothing that would ruin your trip unless you’re trying to stream movies all night. The staff genuinely seemed to know the city well – the front desk guy gave me this insider tip about the best time to visit the covered bridges (early morning, apparently, before the light gets too harsh for photos), and he was absolutely right. Check-in was smooth, no waiting around, and they had this nice touch of offering local wine as a welcome drink instead of the usual champagne. You can tell it’s the kind of place that cares about the details without being fussy about it. If you’re looking for a spot that feels authentically Strasbourg without sacrificing comfort, the Writers hits that sweet spot perfectly.

Travelers should reserve a hotel in Strasbourg at least two months ahead of their visit to ensure availability and secure better rates, especially during the peak December season when the city hosts its world-famous Christmas celebrations.

Reviews

  • Exceptional – Collier from Belgium – 14 June 2025 (10/10)

Cosy, compact, central location. A little over furnished and to get there you have to ignore the authorised vehicles only signs in the area, good luck with that 😉

What could be improved: Driving round trying to get to the address, if you're travelling light park and walk. 🙂

  • Fantastic apartment and would definitely choose to stay here again when I return to Strasbourg. – Gloria from United States – 17 December 2024 (9/10)

Excellent location, right behind the cathedral and half a block up from the river. Always felt safe, even at night. The apartment was clean, well equipped, quiet and cozy. Everything you'd need for a stay was there, including a washing machine (we did not use it). This was perfect, close to restaurants, the river and the square in front of the most amazing cathedral. Short walk to the main train station (15-20 minutes), even with luggage.

What could be improved: Nothing negative to say other than the hall outside the apartment had motion sensitive lighting. So when you left the apartment, everything is dark until your motion triggers the sensor. Being at the top of a flight of stairs, I sometimes went down 2-3 stairs before the lights came on. Of course, the host is not responsible for this — just be aware.

  • Amazing location, great apartment – Stephanie from Australia – 13 December 2024 (10/10)

The location was amazing, right in the heart of Strasbourg close to all the markets but very quiet street so the market sounds weren't a bother at all, apartment was very clean and comfortable also.

  • Superb – Gordon from Australia – 28 July 2024 (9/10)

Lovely little apartment full of character and excellent location.

  • Very good – Tatiana from United States – 24 July 2024 (8/10)

Excellent location, close to Cathédrale and the river. Very comfortable bed and nice apartment.

What could be improved: It was a problem with the keybox, but the owner is going to change it. Nоt enough electric lighting in the apartment except in the bathroom.

  • Convenient – Leslie from United Kingdom – 28 May 2024 (8/10)

Great location but expensive compared to accommodation outside the canal. Perfect position for walking out and easy to return to during the day.

What could be improved: Not the cheapest option around. And problem with TV not resolved, glad we didn’t have real emergency!!
