Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Villa Kleber? It’s tucked right along the Ill River on this quiet stretch of Quai Kleber where you can actually hear the water lapping against the embankment when you open your windows. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from the cathedral and all that tourist chaos, but somehow this little pocket feels almost residential. The building itself has that classic Alsatian charm – not overly renovated, which honestly I appreciated because so many places in Strasbourg have been stripped of their character.

The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star, nothing fancy but they’ve got personality. Mine overlooked the quai and I could watch people jogging along the water in the mornings, plus there’s this gorgeous view toward Petite France if you crane your neck a bit. The beds are actually comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms are recently updated without being sterile. What I really loved was how quiet it gets at night – you’re far enough from the main drags like Rue du 22 Novembre that you don’t get the late-night bar crowd stumbling around, but close enough that you can walk to Krutenau for dinner without thinking twice about it. The staff genuinely seem to know the neighborhood too, not just the obvious tourist spots. When I asked about parking, they pointed me to this little street behind Place Arnold where locals park for free – saved me like 15 euros a day compared to the hotel garage.

Honestly, Villa Kleber feels like one of those places that works because it doesn’t try too hard. The breakfast isn’t going to blow your mind, but it’s proper French – good croissants, local jams, decent coffee – and you can sit outside when the weather’s nice. I stayed in early October and the whole area was perfect for walking, especially along the water toward the European Parliament (which is actually kind of impressive up close, even if you’re not into politics). The hotel’s got this relaxed vibe that matches the neighborhood perfectly. It’s not trying to be a luxury experience, but after spending days wandering around the old town and climbing cathedral towers, coming back to a comfortable room with that river view felt exactly right. Plus, and this might sound random, but the Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building – you’d be surprised how many European hotels still struggle with that.

Early hotels booking in Strasbourg is essential during major events like the Christmas Market, as accommodations fill up quickly with visitors eager to experience the city’s renowned festive atmosphere and Gothic architecture.

  • YOU SHOULD BE MORE CLEAR IN YOUR INFOMATION ABOUT THE KEY – WRITE THIS FIRST IN THE EMAIL – Eva-marie from Denmark – 3 April 2025 (8/10)

What could be improved: I was not aware where the key was. The text about the key was hidden long down in a french email and I dont read french. When I arrived I tried to call and write many times, but no reply. I had to go to another hotel and stay for one night. I cost me 75 euro.

  • Great price/benefit place – Patrick from Switzerland – 3 November 2024 (8/10)

Location, bed and linens,, able to have a meal in the room.

What could be improved: No place to store luggage after check out, no heating in the room only bathroom.

  • Superb – Lorraine from Australia – 31 October 2024 (9/10)

Loved the location of the apartment. The foyer of the building looks like it's seen better days but the apartment (up only one flight of stairs) was fine – it's small but the layout is very smart and the furniture is beautiful. Check-in was very easy. The location is also wonderful. I was a little worried that it'd be nosy but it was in fact very quiet. Strasborg is well worth a visit. We had a good time.

What could be improved: The foyer – it seems run down.

  • Nice apartment for short stay – Liliya from Ukraine – 2 August 2024 (9/10)

    Location
    Clean and comfortable tiny apartment
nice to have a bottle of cold water in the fridge
Coffee maker ( big + for me)
Microwave allows to cook something simple

What could be improved: It is necessary to have dustpan and broom to clean the floor in case of long staying
Conditioner doesn't exist and the fan is not powerful enough

  • Very good – Sarai from Spain – 1 March 2024 (8/10)

    Location & utilities

What could be improved: Could be more clean

  • Good – Mónica from Luxembourg – 26 May 2025 (7/10)

It is located close to the train station and the centre. The beds were comfortable, and the room was tranquil. There was a good shower, too. Everything you need for a weekend.

What could be improved: The entrance could be improved. The studio is a bit dark, and you need to close the curtains to have some privacy. But it didn't bother us cause we spent all day outside.

  • Very good – Gunvor from Denmark – 30 April 2025 (8/10)

Charming room with all the facilities, you needed. Quiet and very central – only 9-10 minutes walk from the central station.

  • Great location, compact but neat and clean. – Geoff from Australia – 26 April 2025 (8/10)

Great location for getting into the main part of town on foot, also buses right outside. Double glazing on windows kept it nice and quiet in the apartment. Compact living/sleeping area, small kitchenette, bathroom was roomy with a great shower. Neat and clean, we enjoyed our stay.

What could be improved: We were on the 2nd floor and the stairs were steep so if you are travelling with suitcases be mindful that you will have to carry them up. Nothing the owner can do about that, just a note.

  • A very convenient, comfortable, clean room. Good mattress. – Nigel from United States – 13 December 2024 (8/10)

The keys were in the obvious place: under the door mat. There was no working lock on the door to the street even though we had two keys. The other key probably was for the door on the street.

What could be improved: The interior of the building from the street to our room was dingy. It would have been appreciated if there was a box of paper tissues. Lighting needs some improvement.

  • A great place to stay where we will go back – Kinsuk from Luxembourg – 1 December 2024 (9/10)

We liked absolutely everything. The property owner contacted us in time and told us where to find the key. The inside of the flat was really good. Everything was clean and warm. There was even a little fridge and coffee maker which was nice as we arrived quite tired and wanted to have a hot coffee before going out. Although the house was on top of a main road, we almost didn't hear any noise from the traffic or particularly buses. We slept really well. Overall a very good place in a great location which I didn't even mention. To be honest the location couldn't be better. Everything was accessible by foot within a minute be it a restaurant or cafes or shops. I will recommend this place highly and when we go back to strasburg I will definitely rebook.

What could be improved: There is absolutely nothing to dislike at the place. However we have a few small suggestions that could be taken in consideration by the owner such as….
When you entering the place in the night there is almost no light outside. A light with a sensor would be helpful.
After entering the property we have to take two flights of stairs which is not a problem. However the small corridor and the staircase need care such as polishing painting and a thorough cleaning.
The bed mattress could be slightly farmer as after 2 days I had a slight back pain which my partner felt as well.
