You know what struck me first about Triplex place de la cathédrale? The moment you step out the front door, you’re literally staring up at one of Europe’s most stunning Gothic cathedrals – I mean, it’s right there, dominating the entire square. The location is honestly incredible, though it comes with the reality of being in the heart of tourist central Strasbourg.

The hotel itself is solid three-star territory – nothing fancy, but they’ve got the essentials down pretty well. The rooms are what you’d expect for the price point, clean and functional, though the walls are a bit thin so you’ll definitely hear your neighbors and probably some street noise during the day (the square gets busy with tour groups, especially in summer). Actually, I found the evening hours much more peaceful when the day-trippers head back to their buses. The staff genuinely seems to care about the place, which you notice in small ways – fresh flowers in the lobby, quick responses when you need extra towels, that sort of thing. Check-in was smooth, and they speak decent English if your French is rusty.

What really makes this place work is how perfectly positioned you are for exploring Strasbourg’s old town. You can walk to Petite France in about ten minutes – just head down toward the river and follow the canal. The Christmas market (if you’re there in December) literally surrounds you, which is magical but also means booking way ahead and dealing with crowds. For food, skip the touristy spots right on the cathedral square and walk two blocks in any direction – there’s this great winstub on Rue des Frères that serves proper Alsatian food without the markup. Parking is tricky around here, honestly – there’s an underground garage nearby but it fills up fast, so maybe consider the tram from outside the city center if you’re driving. The 7.9 rating feels about right to me; it’s not going to blow you away with luxury, but for the location and the price, it delivers what it promises. If you want to wake up to cathedral bells and be in the thick of everything Strasbourg has to offer, this place makes a lot of sense.

  What could be improved: Climb up lots of stairs to get to the apartment, quite difficult with children and luggage. Shower facilities not great, shower hose over bath but no riser for it so had to be held by hand! Not all plug sockets and lights working.

  The position was wonderful. Great view.

  Had to walk through one bedroom to get to the 2nd bedroom so no privacy and so called 3rd bedroom was up a wooden ladder inside a bedroom.

  Totally unsuitable for a family including 2 seniors and a young toddler.
