So I stumbled across this little apartment hotel on rue du Tonnelet Rouge – honestly, the street name alone made me curious (it means “Little Red Barrel” if you’re wondering). You know what struck me first? The location is actually pretty brilliant. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the cathedral, but tucked away on this quiet side street where you won’t hear tour groups trampling around at 7 AM.

The building itself has that classic Strasbourg thing going on – you know, half-timbered exterior that makes you feel like you’re staying inside a fairy tale, but the apartment inside is refreshingly modern. I mean, thank god, because some of these historic places can be charming until you realize the shower has medieval water pressure. Not the case here. The space feels more like borrowing a friend’s well-kept city apartment than staying in a typical hotel room. There’s actually a proper kitchenette (rare for a 3-star place), which came in handy when I wanted to grab fresh bread from the boulangerie on Place Kléber and have a real breakfast instead of hotel croissants. The Wi-Fi worked perfectly – always a gamble in these old buildings with thick walls.

What really won me over was how it sits right in the sweet spot of Strasbourg’s center. You can walk to Petite France in about ten minutes, hit the Christmas markets (if you’re there in winter) without fighting for tram space, and there’s this excellent winstub called Chez Yvonne just around the corner that most tourists completely miss. The 7.8 rating makes sense to me – it’s not luxury, but it’s solid and honest. My only real complaint? The stairs are narrow and steep, so if you’re hauling huge suitcases, well… let’s just say your calves will know about it. But honestly, for the price point and location, you’d be hard-pressed to find something better in the heart of Strasbourg. It’s the kind of place where you actually feel like you’re living in the city for a few days rather than just passing through it.

  Great location. Everything looking like new and cosy inside the apart.
  
  What could be improved: No closet and nowhere to hang cloth. Even the rake for coats by the entrance door was down (held by adhesive tape? seriously?). Third floor. The windows (no view really) open into a small inner yard where you find the back side of the kitchen of the neighboring restaurant. So where the staff get to smoke and store the trash dumpster. Evening cooking smell good however.
  Front street door (next to restaurant) of the hallway on 1st floor does not close. Anybody can get into the building. But area look safe. The building entrance and staircase is intimidating. But the inside of the apart is great (if you don't have cloths to hang).

  Good location, nice cozy decoration. Clean.
  
  What could be improved: So noisy due to cafe underneath. And bad smell when you opening the window. I prefer key boxes at the same place with apartment.

  The location was very central, and the apartment had all someone could need. very satisfied.
  
  What could be improved: -no elevator (but that is normal in an old city centre)
  -when needed help nobody was available on the phone at 8 pm.(that's inacceptable to me and is the reason for the rating)
  -at arrival found a few black hair on bed ( since I received an email with all the instructions and warnings how to leave the apartment clean and organised at checkout I was not expecting to make this find)
  – check instructions where good but missed to explain that the apartment is not reachable by car which I Understand is usual, but I appreciate a warning

  logement refait a neuve très propre fonctionnel; literie très bien.
  
  What could be improved: L'emplacement au dessus d'un restaurant, bruit de 20h00 a 2h du matin; puis rebelote a partir de 5 h (livraison et nettoyage de poubelle par le restaurateur) impossible d'ouvrir les fenetres si non toutes les odeurs de cuisine du restaurant rentrent dans l'appartement.

  Lo mejor es la ubicación, justo detrás de la Catedral, en el barrio antiguo de Estrasburgo.
  La cama comodísima, buenas toallas, muy limpio, tiene calefacción, y suficiente menaje en la cocina.
  
  What could be improved: La portería y escalera son muy viejas, pero el apartamento está nuevo.
  Faltaría disponer de un armario/cajones para guardar la ropa, al menos algunas perchas para las camisas/pantalones.
  Un poco caro de precio.

  Чудове місце розташування. У квартирі є все необхідне для відпочинку на уїк-енд.
  
  What could be improved: Всі вікна виходять у внутрішній двір, найпершому поверсі якого розміщена кухня ресторану. Витяжка кухні також виходить в цей двір, але вона не піднята над вікнами. Тому якщо вам захочеться відкрити влітку вікна, то доведеться дихати всіма ароматами витяжки. До цього ще й додається постійний шум від роботи кухні і персоналу. А кондиціонерів у приміщенні не має. Саме тому літом можуть бути проблеми.

  Appartement cosy, bien refait, lit très confortable et bien situé.
  
  What could be improved: L’immeuble sale.
  Mais le gros bémol: l’isolation phonique de l’appartement au niveau des fenêtres et SURTOUT les employés du resto qui remplissent leurs poubelles à verres à 2h du matin, trois nuits d’affilé….
