Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of places in Strasbourg over the years, but this little gem on Rue du Bain-aux-Plantes really gets it right. The name’s a mouthful – Terrasse vue sur Ill – but honestly, that terrace view is exactly why you’re here. You’re literally hanging over the Ill River in the heart of Petite France, watching the canal boats drift by while you sip your morning coffee. I mean, you can see the covered bridges from your window, which is pretty incredible when you think about it.

What I love about this place is that it actually feels like you’re staying in someone’s renovated townhouse rather than some sterile hotel. The building’s got that classic Alsatian character – you know, the timber framing and steep roofs – but inside it’s been done up with modern touches that don’t feel forced. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star place, nothing revolutionary but thoughtfully put together. The beds are proper comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms are spacious enough that you’re not bumping elbows with your travel partner. One thing though – if you’re a light sleeper, maybe ask for a room facing away from the street. It’s not terrible, but there’s some foot traffic since you’re right in the tourist heart of things.

The location is honestly unbeatable if you want to be in the thick of Strasbourg’s most photogenic neighborhood. You’re a two-minute walk from Pont du Faisan, maybe five minutes to the cathedral if you’re taking your time and stopping for photos. I’ve found that most tourists rush through Petite France in an hour, but when you’re staying right here, you get to experience it in the early morning and evening when the light hits those half-timbered houses just right. There’s a decent boulangerie around the corner on Rue des Moulins – their pain au chocolat is worth the early wake-up call. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this area (it always is in the old town), but the hotel staff actually know the neighborhood well enough to point you toward the less obvious spots. The 8.6 rating makes sense to me – it’s the kind of place that does the fundamentals really well without trying to be flashy about it. You’re paying for that prime location and the view, sure, but you’re also getting a genuinely pleasant stay in one of France’s most charming quarters.

  Lugar precioso, gran terraza soleada con vista espectacular de día y de noche. Apartamento muy cómodo, bonito y tranquilo. Pantalla gigante para el televisor.

  L'emplacement est parfait en période de Noël. La terrasse est très agréable également. A l'intérieur, le matériel high tech est de très haute qualité et la salle de bains est parfaite. Tout est fait pour se sentir comme chez soi et au cinema à la fois.

  What could be improved: A empresa que faz a gestao do apartamento é pouco profissional, Levamos duas crianças e quando chegamos nao tinham a roupa de cama e de banho para elas. Prometeram entregar as 22 e so chegaram perto das 23 o que tendo crianças para dormir nao ajuda. Todas as interacoes com a empresa que gere o apartamento foram muito mas, seja pela ausencia de respostas ou pelas tentativas de humor mal conseguidas.
