Studio Mezzanine Chez Papou, Ville et Forêt Overview
First Impressions
Honestly, Studio Mezzanine Chez Papou, Ville et Forêt caught me off guard in the best way possible. Tucked away on Rue Saint-Ignace in Strasbourg, this four-star gem sits in an annexe building that feels more like discovering a friend’s perfectly curated hideaway than checking into a typical hotel. The name itself tells you everything — you’re getting that cozy “chez” experience with the bonus of being close to both the city buzz and those gorgeous Alsatian forests that make this region so special.
The Space
The mezzanine setup is actually brilliant — you get this sense of vertical space that makes the studio feel way bigger than it probably is on paper. I mean, there’s something about having that elevated sleeping area that just works, especially when you’re traveling as a couple and want distinct zones for relaxing versus sleeping. The room manages to feel both intimate and airy, which is honestly a tough balance to strike. You know what really impressed me? The attention to detail in how they’ve maximized every square meter without making it feel cramped or overly designed.
Location Perks
Here’s the thing about this spot — you’re in Strasbourg proper, but you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos of the cathedral area. Rue Saint-Ignace puts you in this sweet spot where you can actually walk to the historic center (we’re talking maybe 15 minutes), but you also have easy access to those incredible hiking trails in the Vosges foothills. The parking situation alone makes this place worth considering — and it’s free, which in Strasbourg is basically like finding treasure. Most places in the city center will charge you an arm and a leg just to leave your car overnight.
What Makes It Work for Couples
I get why couples rate this place so highly — there’s something inherently romantic about the whole setup. The mezzanine creates this natural intimacy, and you’re staying somewhere that feels more like a local’s apartment than a standard hotel room. Plus, you’ve got the flexibility to explore both sides of what makes Alsace amazing: you can spend your morning wandering through Petite France, grab lunch at one of those incredible winstubs, and then drive out for an afternoon hike in the forest. It’s that perfect mix of urban culture and natural beauty that makes the region so addictive.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel authentically Strasbourgeois while still giving you all the comfort you want from a four-star stay. The “Chez Papou” part of the name isn’t just cute marketing — it actually delivers on that homey, welcoming vibe that makes you want to extend your stay. You’re not just visiting Strasbourg; you’re living in it for a few days, with the added bonus of having those forest escapes right at your doorstep. For the price point and the experience you get, especially with that free parking thrown in, it’s honestly one of the better deals you’ll find in this part of France.

Reviews of Studio Mezzanine Chez Papou, Ville et Forêt
Superb – Lisa-marie from Germany – 6 January 2025 (9/10)
The studio is a great place for 2 people visiting Strasbourg. We especially liked the tiny house vibe. Everything was very clean, well equipped and cozy. We used public transport and needed about 25-30 minutes to reach the Notre Dame du Strasbourg in the centre. We‘d book the studio again.
What could be improved: We had to bring our own duvet cover or pay extra for it.Nous avons passé un agréable séjour dans cette location – Bertrand from France – 2 December 2024 (8/10)

What could be improved: Without a car it gets hard to go to the cityVery pleasant, BUT… – Eduardo-miranda from Ireland – 13 July 2024 (7/10)
The host was prompt and friendly.
What could be improved: There's no internet, and this should be much more clearly stated in the website, and not in small prints.C'est parfait !!! – Chevalier from France – 28 April 2024 (8/10)
C'est le seul bémol..Fortunately there wasn’t a language barrier as I speak adequate German but the host does not speak English, forewarning. – Anonymous from United Kingdom – 11 December 2023 (8/10)
The accommodation was mostly private, you couldn’t hear the music from inside, outside. We really liked the loft bed.
What could be improved: There was no oven which we didn’t realize until after we’d brought home dinner to cook. Whoops.Agréable séjour – Marie from France – 6 December 2023 (9/10)
Petit endroit très sympathique et hôtes hyper accueillant

What could be improved: NéantSehr schöne Wohnung mit perfekter Lage – Sophia from Germany – 31 May 2023 (9/10)
