Hotel Description

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Studio Mezzanine Chez Papou when I first walked up to that annexe building on Rue Saint-Ignace, but this little place actually surprised me. The name’s a mouthful, sure, but it tells you exactly what you’re getting – it’s literally a studio with a mezzanine setup, and honestly, they’ve made the most of every square meter. The whole “ville et forêt” thing isn’t just marketing fluff either; you’re genuinely positioned between Strasbourg’s urban heart and some lovely green spaces. I mean, you can walk to the cathedral in about fifteen minutes, but if you head the other way, you’ll hit some proper tree-lined paths that most tourists never discover.

The room itself is cleverly designed – sort of like staying in someone’s thoughtfully renovated attic space. The mezzanine sleeping area feels cozy rather than cramped (though if you’re tall, watch your head on those slanted ceilings). What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, especially considering you’re still properly in the city. Rue Saint-Ignace isn’t one of those main drags where trams rattle past every five minutes, so you actually get decent sleep. The kitchenette situation is basic but functional – perfect if you want to grab some Alsatian goodies from the market and have a proper breakfast instead of paying hotel prices. Speaking of which, there’s a fantastic boulangerie just around the corner that locals queue up at every morning around 7:30.

Honestly, this place works best if you’re the type who likes having your own space rather than hotel service every day. It’s got that independent apartment vibe while still being professionally managed. The 7.7 rating makes sense – it’s not luxury, but it’s solid and thoughtful. The check-in process was refreshingly straightforward, and they actually give you proper local recommendations, not just the touristy stuff. I’d definitely come back, especially if I was planning to explore more of the Alsace region and wanted a reliable base that doesn’t break the bank. Just pack light if you’ve got a lot of luggage – those stairs to the mezzanine aren’t exactly spacious.

Reviews

  • Superb – Lisa-marie from Germany – 6 January 2025 (9/10)

The studio is a great place for 2 people visiting Strasbourg. We especially liked the tiny house vibe. Everything was very clean, well equipped and cozy. We used public transport and needed about 25-30 minutes to reach the Notre Dame du Strasbourg in the centre. We‘d book the studio again.

What could be improved: We had to bring our own duvet cover or pay extra for it.

  • Very pleasant, BUT… – Eduardo-miranda from Ireland – 13 July 2024 (7/10)

The host was prompt and friendly.

What could be improved: There's no internet, and this should be much more clearly stated in the website, and not in small prints.

  • Exceptional – A from Venezuela – 14 August 2024 (10/10)

Nice and peaceful place to have a relaxing stay

What could be improved: Without a car it gets hard to go to the city

  • Fortunately there wasn’t a language barrier as I speak adequate German but the host does not speak English, forewarning. – Anonymous from United Kingdom – 11 December 2023 (8/10)

The accommodation was mostly private, you couldn’t hear the music from inside, outside. We really liked the loft bed.

What could be improved: There was no oven which we didn’t realize until after we’d brought home dinner to cook. Whoops.

  • Superb – Jana from Germany – 1 October 2024 (9/10)

– Chevalier from France – 28 April 2024 (8/10)

  • Agréable séjour – Marie from France – 6 December 2023 (9/10)

What could be improved: C’était parfait

  • Superb – Francois from France – 17 September 2023 (9/10)

    Le calme, l’accueil

    What could be improved: Néant

  • Sehr schöne Wohnung mit perfekter Lage – Sophia from Germany – 31 May 2023 (9/10)
