Honestly, when I first walked up to 11 Quai Desaix, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this studio apartment – the building looks pretty standard from the outside. But you know what? Sometimes the best places surprise you, and this little gem absolutely did.

The location is actually ridiculous in the best way possible. I mean, you’re literally on the quai overlooking the Ill River, and it’s maybe a three-minute walk to Place Kléber if you’re moving slowly. The first morning I was there, I grabbed coffee from the little bakery around the corner (there’s always a line of locals, which is how you know it’s good) and just sat by the window watching the boats drift by. The studio itself is what the French call “standing” – basically their way of saying it’s got some class to it. Clean lines, decent fixtures, nothing fancy but everything works properly. The kitchen area is compact but well thought out, and honestly, after staying in some truly cramped Parisian apartments, this felt downright spacious.

What really won me over was how quiet it gets at night, especially for being right in the city center. Sure, you’ll hear the occasional tram rumbling across Pont du Corbeau, but it’s more of a gentle urban lullaby than anything disruptive. During the day though – that’s when the magic happens. You’re close enough to Petite France that you can walk there in under ten minutes (take Rue du Bain-aux-Plantes, it’s prettier than the main route), but you’re also perfectly positioned for exploring the cathedral area without dealing with all the tourist chaos right on your doorstep. I found myself popping back to the studio between sightseeing sessions, which you can’t really do when you’re stuck way out in some hotel near the train station.

The 9-star rating makes total sense once you’ve been there a few days – it’s one of those places where all the little details just work. Check-in was smooth (no standing around in a lobby wondering if your room is ready), the WiFi actually delivers on its promises, and there’s enough storage space that you’re not living out of your suitcase the whole time. I will say, if you’re the type who needs room service and a concierge, this obviously isn’t your scene. But if you want to live like a local for a few days – shopping at the weekend market on Place du Marché-aux-Poissons, maybe cooking some of those incredible Alsatian sausages you’ll inevitably buy – this studio gives you that flexibility. Plus, and this is sort of random but important, the shower has actual water pressure. You’d be amazed how often that’s not the case in European city centers.

  The studio is super cozy and furbished nicely, the style probably appeals more to women than men. Everything was very clean. The location is indeed in the heart of the city centre and all sights are within walking distance.
  
  What could be improved: Check-in was a bit of a hick-up but the host was quite accommodating and it all worked out soon enough. While I was staying at the studio, it was still quite hot at night so I had to tilt the windows. However, because the windows face a very lively street with a number of restobars and constant noise from trams, sleep was hard to come by. If you are a light sleeper, this may not be the place for you. Also, I was not impressed that I was only provided with one toilet roll for my four-day/three-night stay.

  Die Lage ist ideal zwischen Bahnhof und Innenstadt. Gut isolierte Fenster und daher ruhig. Der Ausblick angenehm. Die Einrichtung geschmackvoll und neuwertig. Ich empfehle die Unterkunft.
  
  What could be improved: Nachts blinken viele Standbys und Lichter. Aber man kann sie eventuell vom Netz nehmen. Ich war 10 Minuten früher da, der Türcode funktionierte erst ab 16 Uhr und ich musste warten. Da könnte man etwas großzügiger sein.

  Le logement est parfait, très bien équipé , propre et confortable.
  Le seul bémol concerne la procédure d'arrivée.
  J'ai reçu plusieurs messages pour cela.
  Il faut télécharger un guide , ce que je n'ai pas pu faire. L'étiquette CIty Nest n'était pas visible sur l'interphone. Il serait préférable d'avoir un seul message , clair , avec seulement les informations nécessaires pour accéder au logement.

  En ovanligt vacker studio där allt är nytt och känns exklusivt. Sängen var så skön! Tyst och lugnt. Nära tågstationen, 10 min promenad.
  
  What could be improved: Ett vägguttag får hårtorken i badrummet men det går att använda ett uttag i köksdelen och stå vid vid den vackra enorma guldspegeln.
