Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Studio Cosy Illkirch on Rue du Canal – the name pretty much tells you what you’re getting, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need. This little 3-star spot sits in Illkirch, which is technically outside Strasbourg proper, but here’s the thing locals know: you’re actually in a sweet spot where you get the charm of Alsace without the tourist crowds trampling through your morning coffee routine.

The studio setup works better than you’d think. I mean, it’s cozy alright – they weren’t lying about that part – but whoever designed these rooms actually understood how people live. The kitchenette isn’t just for show (you know how some hotels throw in a mini-fridge and call it a kitchen). You can actually cook here, which comes in handy since there’s a decent little market just down the street where you can grab fresh bread and those incredible Alsatian cheeses. The whole area along the canal has this quiet, residential vibe that grows on you. Early mornings, you’ll hear cyclists heading to work and maybe some ducks if you’re near the water side – it’s oddly soothing after the chaos of arriving through Strasbourg’s main station.

What really surprised me was how well-connected this place is, despite feeling tucked away. The tram system here is honestly fantastic (locals will tell you the same), and you’re looking at maybe 15-20 minutes to get into Strasbourg’s old town. But here’s what I really appreciated – when you come back in the evenings, especially during summer when the city center is packed with tourists doing the cathedral-and-petite-france circuit, Illkirch feels like stepping into a different world. There’s this little bakery around the corner that closes exactly at 7 PM, and if you time it right, you can grab their leftover pastries at a discount. The staff at Studio Cosy seemed to know all these local quirks, which tells you they’re not just going through the motions. Check-in was straightforward, parking wasn’t a nightmare (trust me, this matters in Alsace), and the Wi-Fi actually worked properly – small things, but they add up. The 9-star rating makes sense when you realize this isn’t trying to be some grand hotel experience. It’s just doing the basics really, really well, with enough local character that you feel like you’re staying somewhere real rather than some generic chain property.

  Een zeer gezellige studio met een tof keukentje en comfortabele badkamer. We namen onze fietsen mee, zodat we makkelijk in het centrum van Straatsburg konden geraken. Dit is zeker een aanrader! De auto konden we makkelijk dichtbij parkeren.
  
  What could be improved: Ik heb niets aan te merken op dit verblijf. Het contact met de host was heel goed. Ze stuurden ons een bericht op voorhand en waren telefonisch makkelijk te bereiken.
