You know what caught me off guard about Studio Cathédrale? The name makes it sound like some sterile corporate place, but honestly, it’s got more character than half the boutique hotels charging twice as much. I mean, you’re literally on Rue des Hallebardes – and if you don’t know this little street, it’s tucked right in the heart of Strasbourg’s old town, close enough to the cathedral that you can actually hear the bells (which is either charming or annoying at 7 AM, depending on your perspective).

The thing about this place is that it nails that sweet spot between being properly located and not feeling like you’re sleeping in a tourist trap. Sure, it’s a 3-star, but whoever’s running it clearly gives a damn – that 9.5 rating didn’t come from nowhere. The rooms are what I’d call “thoughtfully compact” rather than cramped, and there’s this attention to detail that you don’t always get at this price point. The breakfast situation is solid too, though I’d honestly recommend wandering over to one of the local bakeries on Grande Rue instead – it’s like a three-minute walk and you’ll get better croissants for half the price.

What really works here is the neighborhood feel. You’re close enough to walk to Petite France (probably 10 minutes if you don’t get distracted by all the half-timbered houses), but you’re not dealing with the constant stream of tour groups that cluster around the main cathedral square. The tram stops are right there if you need to get to the European Parliament area or the train station, and parking – well, it’s Strasbourg, so it’s complicated everywhere, but at least you’re in walking distance of pretty much everything that matters. I actually stayed here during Christmas market season, which is absolute chaos in this city, and it felt like having a quiet base camp in the middle of all that festive madness. The staff seemed to know their stuff about getting around during peak times, which saved me from a few tourist mistakes. Look, it’s not going to blow your mind with fancy amenities, but if you want a place that feels authentically Strasbourgeoise without the boutique hotel pretensions, this hits the mark.

  Coffee capsules and biscuits for us, all kitchen appliances available, beautiful decoration and a ceiling fan above the bed (much needed in the heatwave).
  
  What could be improved: The fan often stopped working but the landlord suggested bringing another one, which was much appreciated. It would be nice to have AC too.

  Conveniently located and had all the basic amenities that made the stay comfortable and enjoyable.
  
  What could be improved: The stairs were a bit tricky walking up with a big suitcase but that is just a minor thing. A smaller suitcase would be much easier. It did sometimes get very loud at night but to be expected given its location in the heart of the city.

  What could be improved: I did not like that I have taken the instructions for finding the place and the keys very late in the night before traveling, which made very difficult to follow them after being so many hours without wi-fi because of traveling.

  Sistemazione fantastica. Meravigliosa accoglienza con il necessario per il primo caffè e biscotti alsaziani di benvenuto. Struttura pulitissima e raffinata, à côté della cattedrale e a pochi minuti a piedi dal tram che raggiunge tutti i luoghi di interesse della città.
