Hotel Description

Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first pulled up to Skyplace – the address on Allée des Marquises doesn’t exactly scream “hotel,” you know? It’s tucked into this modern residential complex in the Esplanade district, and I actually drove past it twice before spotting the discrete signage on the L3 building. But here’s the thing: once you’re inside, it all makes perfect sense.

The whole setup is brilliantly designed – they’ve basically created these apartment-style suites that feel like you’re staying in a friend’s really nice place rather than a traditional hotel room. I mean, the kitchen actually has proper cookware (not those sad hotel mini-fridges), and the living spaces are generous enough that you can spread out without tripping over your luggage. What really got me was the attention to detail – good coffee in the kitchen, decent Wi-Fi that actually works throughout the unit, and bathrooms with those little touches that show someone was thinking about what travelers really need. The soundproofing is excellent too, which matters because you’re essentially in a residential building. I slept like a baby even though I was initially worried about noise from other residents.

Location-wise, you’re about a 15-minute tram ride from the cathedral and Petite France – close enough to be convenient but far enough out that you’re not dealing with tourist crowds when you come “home” at night. The Esplanade area has this nice local vibe with actual grocery stores and cafés where you hear more French than English, which I loved. There’s a Monoprix just a few minutes’ walk away if you want to stock up on supplies, and honestly, having a proper kitchen means you can grab some of that incredible Alsatian cheese and charcuterie from the local shops and have a proper picnic dinner. Parking can be a bit tricky – it’s street parking mostly, and you’ll want to pay attention to the time limits during the day, but evenings and weekends are generally fine. The tram stop at Krimmeri-Meinau is walkable, though I’d recommend having the route mapped out on your phone the first time because the residential streets can be a bit confusing. What really sets this place apart is that it feels authentic – you’re staying where actual Strasbourg residents live, not in some sterile hotel district. It’s perfect if you want to experience the city like a local rather than just tick off the tourist boxes.
