You know what caught me off guard about this place? The name actually tells you everything – “jardin en ville” means garden in the city, and honestly, that’s exactly what you get when you stay at this little gem in Robertsau. I mean, most people zip through Strasbourg hitting the cathedral and Petite France (which, don’t get me wrong, you should totally do), but this neighborhood feels like you’ve stumbled into where actual Strasbourgeois live their daily lives.

The apartment itself is ground floor right on Route de la Wantzenau – and before you worry about street noise, it’s actually pretty quiet since this isn’t one of those main tourist drags. What really got me was how the owner has this space set up. It’s got that lived-in comfortable feeling without being messy, if that makes sense. The garden access is the real winner here though. I spent way too many mornings out there with coffee, watching locals bike past on their way to work. You’re close enough to the Rhine that you can actually walk to the riverbank in about ten minutes, which hardly anyone mentions in the typical Strasbourg guides. The Deux-Rives bridge is right there too – great for evening walks when the light hits the water just right.

Here’s the thing about staying in Robertsau instead of the city center – you get to see how this place actually works. There’s a decent bakery about three blocks down (turn left when you leave, you can’t miss it), and the tram line that’ll get you into the historic center runs pretty regularly. Takes maybe fifteen minutes door-to-door to Grande Île. Parking was surprisingly easy too, which anyone who’s driven in European city centers will appreciate. The check-in was smooth – none of that awkward key-exchange-at-a-random-café situation you sometimes get with apartment rentals. I actually ended up staying an extra day because, well, sometimes you find a place that just works, you know? The 9.5 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be fancy or Instagram-perfect, it’s just really, really well done for what it is. Plus you’re positioned perfectly if you want to explore the European Parliament area or even venture into Germany for the day (the border’s literally a twenty-minute drive). It’s one of those stays where you feel like you accidentally discovered something special.

  I was looking for somewhere comfortable to stay whilst alone on a work trip. This ticked all the boxes: clean, cosy, well fitted out, well-equipped kitchen, spacious bathroom, comfortable bed. Although it was too rainy to use the terrace, I appreciated being able to look out onto greenery. Great communication with the host – thanks Rodica!. Highly recommend.
