Honestly, when I first pulled up to Résidence Romains 1G, I wasn’t expecting much – the name’s a bit of a mouthful, and let’s face it, some classified tourist accommodations in France can be hit or miss. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in the best way possible.

The location on Route des Romains is pretty clever, actually. You’re far enough from the tourist chaos around the cathedral and Petite France (which, don’t get me wrong, are gorgeous but absolutely packed), yet you can still hop on a tram or even walk into the city center without too much trouble. What really sold me though was that free garage – and I mean, anyone who’s tried to park in Strasbourg knows this is basically like finding gold. The garage isn’t huge, but it’s secure and saves you from circling the block for twenty minutes looking for street parking. Plus, you don’t have to worry about your car when you’re out exploring Alsace’s wine route or heading over to Germany for the day.

The apartment itself feels more like staying at a well-organized friend’s place than a typical hotel room. It’s got that clean, modern Scandinavian vibe going on – lots of light wood and white surfaces, but not in a sterile way. The kitchen actually works (revolutionary concept, I know), so you can grab fresh stuff from the Saturday morning market at Place du Marché aux Poissons and make breakfast without resorting to overpriced hotel food. I mean, the croissants from the bakery down the street are pretty tempting too, but having options is nice. The whole setup feels surprisingly spacious for a city accommodation, and honestly, after a long day of wandering around Strasbourg’s cobblestone streets, you’ll appreciate having room to spread out. The Wi-Fi is solid – worked fine for video calls back home – and the heating actually keeps up with those chilly Alsatian evenings. One small thing though: if you’re a super light sleeper, you might catch some traffic noise in the early morning since it’s on a main road, but it’s nothing a decent pair of earplugs can’t handle. The 8.5 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it delivers exactly what most travelers actually need: comfort, space, and that blessed free parking.

  The apartment was compact and comfortable with most facilities that we needed. The location, while not pretty, has good transport in to town.

  Very clean apartment, garage (Opel Mokka fitted in without any problems), kitchen, shower. We had a great stay. The tram, a pharmacy, supermarket Lidl, playground etc. are all just around the corner, the neighborhood is better than some other parts of Strasbourg. Regarding the comments of some other Booking users: easy check-in, many clear instructions for everything, a responsive host, 2 sleep in the bedroom and 1 or 2 can sleep on the sofa in the main area. Curtains are thick, but allow some daylight in. The level of noise from the street and the tram are normal for a flat in a city, no reason for complaints.
  
  What could be improved: There are many things in the kitchen which is very nice and useful, however, there was no large pot (to cook 1 kg of pasta for example).

  The apt is ok. It has everything you need (except for washing pods, be sure to buy some if you want to clean your clothes).
  It would be nice if the owner would mark the keys to know which one belong. 🙂

  Everything went smooth, host was very nice and available at any time for help, the appartment is nice and the location is great. We recommend the just across the street pizzeria called Limoncello 😀 we became friends with the owner, who has been serving us home made limoncello on the house.
  
  What could be improved: the bedroom has a high window, hardly accessible, and no shadows for sun blocking. Air conditioning could also be useful during the summer time. We stayed here in july and it was really hot even with the open window…

  The location is great, close to the tram stop and across the road from a good bakery.
  
  What could be improved: we had booked the apartment on the understanding that it was a 2 bedroom apartment with a living room (as per the description on booking.com). This turned out not to be the case, it is a 1 bedroom apartment with a sofa bed in the living room/kitchen/dining area. Not at all what we were led to believe we were paying for.

  De accomodatie is van alles voorzien en onlangs volledig gerenoveerd. Wij waren met ons gezin op doorreis en hebben met de tips van de eigenaar een hele leuke avond in Straatsburg gehad. De tram naar het centrum stopt voor de deur.
  
  What could be improved: Het was fijn een privé garage te hebben maar helaas moest de bagagebox wel eerst van het dak. Maar dat was ook zo gebeurd. Verder alles prima.
